This is my initial feeling right after I finished the game. First off, it leaves a melancholy aftertaste based off the story. Now, the mechanics themselves were great. I had no problems with any of my input and never felt frustrated because the buttons never worked or the enemies were BS. This game reminds of Metroid Fusion when it comes to the movements and shooting style. The bosses weren’t that bad, especially when you get the dash. There was a variety of them and the boss battles felt fair. Pretty much two phases, but melted into one. Only weird caveat was that the bosses/mini bosses felt random. I walk into a random hallway and boss is there. Well, ok, here we go, we fightin now. It felt like there wasn’t a big boss for every main objective you go to. Also, quite a bit of backtracking because the game didn’t point in any direction of which objective to complete first because some places requires you to have a certain weapon to break certain walls. However, you don’t know that. You pretty much have to backtrack and hopefully run into the right things. Now, as for the story. Immediately, when I started up this game, I felt this story was going to be sad. It gave this atmospheric feel of sorrowfulness, but with a sliver of hope. Not going to go into details because Spoilers, but you get the idea. I liked the story because you, as the player, are an unknown entity. You don’t why nor how you got there, but you are there. You wake up with no recollection of who you are and as the story progresses, you find others who are trying to get off the planet which then becomes your main objective. The lore and background story hints at who you might be, but is never concrete until the very end. In conclusion, the story actually wraps up.... Well, depends on the player. However, I would give this a solid 4.6/5. The story has enough depth, albeit a little confusing at times, but the gameplay itself was solid and worked fluidly.
Starting off, I think this is a great game. The story line, good music, and great art makes it lovely. The different elemental mechanics made the game interesting. The different armors and small variations of attack style was unique. I personally liked the Poseidon armor. You can either swim swiftly or just run. The timings you have to learn and some prediction are needed. However, I just tend to hack and slash as fast as I could. As for the bosses, well --> See what boss do, damage boss as much as possible, dodge, attack, learn pattern?, dodge again, attack while dodging, chase the boss endlessly, and once the boss is as red as a beet, keep smacking the ever-loving life out of them. I do like how the health/shield works though. Don't really see elsewhere. Now, for some cons. Hugging the bear. It's not annoying to use, but sometimes it would not respond. You have to move slightly then click and hold again for it to work. Another is the armor change. Sometimes it lets you switch in one keystroke. Other times, you have to mash it. It is consistent most of the time, but every now and again, it just doesn't work. Also, running into any enemies is an almost guarantee loss of your entire shield pool. Plus, the final armor, I wish the running into enemies mechanic was applied to the other armors as well. Last but not least, the storyline. I wish there was more to the story. More background story, dialogues, conversations, or just more of her thoughts. I would have loved more dialogue when Europa goes in the elevator to get more out of her personality. Some conversation between Apino and Europa would have been nice too. I wanted to fall for Europa like I do other characters in other games. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game. I just really, really wanted to love the characters. I would give it a 5/5, but without those tiny specs of details pulling me in, I can't. Overall, I would say 4.4/5
