Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg

Falls short of a modern classic

Strategic Mind Blitzkrieg (SMB) looks gorgeous. The advancement, across General, Command, Unit experience and Equipment adds extra depth to your army. But the game suffers from really terrible missions, which have objectives thrown in that are either: - Forcing you to rush back from one side of the map to the other, sometimes with unreasonable timescales (e.g. the Hitler train appearing in the West as you have pushed all the way through the Eastern objectives, with hidden enemies ambushing) - Forcing you to chase after moving objectives that detract from the primary mission, yet provide important benefits (e.g. the Norweigan supply train) - Forcing you to replay the same scenario over and over to lean the nuances of each objective that is added during the mission, so you can plan the battle better This all results in a game that feels more like a puzzle than a wargame, denying the chance to use your own strategy to achieve victory. An option to disable the additional objectives without being penalised by the lack of income and benefits throughout the campaign. I have close to 30 hours gameplay, but have only completed the first 3 battles. It is tedious having to replay the same thing over and over - an average of 8 hours per map. Other points: - The cut scenes look good in 3D, but the voice acting (everyone in the German high command speaks with an English accent) really distract - Air combat is terrible due to pathing. There's no way to select which route your planes take, so they blindly (and sometimes knowingly) fly into AA intercept hexes. - Naval combat is a very rich, with the ability to target individual systems. Naval battles feel very different from ground battles, and add a lot to scenarios with naval elements. Overall, this feels like a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. With a few options that can be turned on or off by the player, the game could be a classic. As it is, its more frustrating than anything else.

HITMAN - Game of The Year Edition

Great game, shouldn't be on GOG as DRMed

A great Hitman title - not as story driven as Absolution. But it is DRM - you can't unlock items offline. I already have this on Steam and would happily have bought it again on GOG (as I have with All the other Hutman games), but DRM and online means I'm not buying the same thing twice

Stranglehold

Hard Boiled on the PC

Fantastic 3rd person shooter that really captures Hard Boiled. Graphically, has aged well (though make sure you get the GOG FOV fix to support widescreen perspective) Gameplay wise, its still every bit as much slow-mo bullet-time fun as it ever was

Gratuitous Space Battles 2

Not a patch (or patched) on the original

Extremely buggy and unfinished game that never delivered a better, bigger or more enjoyable experience over the original. Avoid - its abandoned by the dev and loves to crash.
