This is storytelling at it's best! The athmosphere, the immersion - it's amazing. But more than anything - it's a philosophical experience that stimulates your mind. This game is one of a few things (not only games!) that influenced my worldview. The main question of the game may not be the most novel - but it is definitely one of the most intruguing ones - what does it mean to be a human? This game does not give an easy answer, but it definitely makes you think about an answer to this question.
This amazing shooter is now on GOG. Instabuy for me! Now for people that find that this game looks terribly on your modern PC, even worse than when originally released - I found a problem with texture downsize on my machine and from what I know many people had this problem too - it looked terrible even on ultra details. I don't remember where I found the solution, but it's quite simple: Open q4base/Quake4Config.cfg in your game directory and look for this: seta image_downSizeLimit "128" seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "128" seta image_downSizeSpecularLimit "64" and change it to something less ridiculous, for example: seta image_downSizeLimit "2048" seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "2048" seta image_downSizeSpecularLimit "1024" Some people sugested turning off downscalling, but it didn't work for me. And above solution worked for me on both Steam and GOG versions.
First of all, I agree with some of the reviews: Yes, it's optional. Yes, I think the art is actually quite nice. Yes, it's not that expensive. BUT (and the 'but' is quite huge). I think that charging money for such content is only a gateway for something bigger. Seriously, It's to ease you up on giving money for little/none content. It's the negation of the idea of companies such as a CDP (sorry, I just had to mention them in such context). I am wholeheartedly for paying developers for their hard work - for example I had no problem buying The White March, because I've enjoyed PoE. And I would gladly pay for such an expansion for Tyranny. BUT... I have to pay 1/5 amount of the cost for BOTH parts of White March for few portraits? And by doing so - to get used to do so in the future? NO. SIMPLY NO.
