King's Bounty: Dark Side

Solid King's Bounty Game

-Fun but easy turn-based combat. If you like the prior games you'll like this combat too but it IS easier and that might make it a disappointment for some. -Pretty graphics and loctions. Spooky ones are creepy-fun. -Really fun and funny protagonists. Text dialogue is sometimes hilarious. -Many story-based puzzle-quests involving NPCs. Most are really good but more than a few can really leave you wondering what to do next. -A critical Orc NPC and ally loves torture a little too much which hurts the comic vibe. -Final boss difficulty jump is pretty close to a 100% increase in difficulty. It's a different game. It can take 20 to 30 minutes to fight this fight and you'll fail a lot. I hated this boss.

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition

Great Immersion. Time Sink.

I love Fallout 4 and I love GOG so I bought it here despite already owning it on Steam. I have always adored CDPR/GOG.COM for well over a decade and defended them when the Cyberpunk release went badly. I bought Cyberpunk at full price and just waited because I knew CDPR would fix it. But then CDPR embraced the Marxist ideology of ESG. I have not bought another game on GOG or a CDPR game since. It broke my heart and I felt betrayed because I always supported and defended this developer and platform. I will return to purchasing from CDPR and GOG if they denounce the use of ESG/DEI. Yes, I expect to get hate but I would encourage everyone not to purchase anything on this platform until they drop the cancer that is ESG. There are all ready signs that the Witcher Remake will be censored, that Witcher 4 will turn girlboss centric and that Cyberpunk 2 will be turned into a virtue signaling DEI showcase. Thank you for letting me have my say.

Saints Row 2

Hilarious Chaos

Great story. Funny dialogue. Lots of diversity and it's done right (i.e., not forcing the message). Countless optional minigames to choose from; some you will love and some you won't. Great cutscenes. Extreme chaos. Will make you miss older games in light of the state of modern games. Wonky vehicle controls that add to the chaos. Can't save during missions. Lots of freeze crashes. The chaos can sometimes be frustrating. Not recommended for people who can't tolerate vehicular manslaughter. This game is not a GTA clone. There is nothing like it. I have never laughed as often as I have in this game. Despite this, the game feels immersive and life-like. Wow.

Despair: Blood Curse

Very Good Indie Game

If you just like resi evil games you’ll like this. It won’t give you the deeper story and AAA experience of resident evil but this game is fun. Pros: +Excellent atmosphere. Love the spooky old house, the paintings, the statues. the lighting. +Lots of intriguing exploration. Can feel like a well-done walking sim at times. +Good but simple story. All the notes are fun to find and read. +Solid use of Resi Evil gameplay that’s obviously not of its caliber but will scratch the itch. +Locked doors and puzzles that are fairly easy to solve so there’s not too many game stalls. +Horror is more creepy than terrifying but that is what I personally like. +A great vibe for 1918 but there’s one issue about costuming, see below. There are even references to WW I. +It’s short (which I love because I sometimes want a quick time filler that feels like a morsel of AAA. Cons: -Melee is not very good. -Gun play is okay but not superb. Still, the headshots are fairly satisfying. -I love the 1918 milieu but the outfit the MC wears just doesn’t work for me. For once I would l love to see a woman protag who is dressed in a way that fits the era but is still tough. Otherwise the character looks great for an indie game. -Limited saves. -It’s short. I would rate it a solid 4 stars but I want to give this a boost. This is a well-done game and it deserves to be played. It costs less than a trip to the theater and, unlike there, you can get away from the politics for a while with this one.

Them and Us Bundle

Very Good Game, too Many Locked Doors

The Good. If you want an excellent Halloween game, this game is perfect. The mood, the atmosphere, the zombies; this is like your favorite haunted house story has come to life but this haunted house you get to explore. It's wonderful. The rooms are amazing and the garden is impressive as well. I took so many screenshots. I played in first person and without seeing my character and, this way, the older Unreal 4 somehow delivers, especially indoors. If you like creepy/spooky scary that's not so grim as Outlast and doesn't require run/hide mechanics this game is for you. The Bad. There are way too many locked doors in this game. Them and Us is at its best when you're exploring its impressive mansion and at its worst when you're stuck trying to find a way to unlock the way to proceed. The doors would be less a problem if they were more like Resident Evil puzzles but too many have very obscure or hard to find solutions. Secondly, there are many areas with numerous exits and entrances which is not a problem in itself but it makes the frequent backtracking a confusing nightmare. Lastly, the character models and animations are poor. There is also a surreal zone about one third through that is awful. It's so jarring and out of place that it has caused some players to quit. I almost did. Fortunately I pressed through it.

INDUSTRIA

Good but HIGH RISK (4 stars w/o bugs)

I really liked this game. It's is so immersive. The shooting is precise and satisfying. The atmosphere and graphics are first rate. There are no quests but the main story but it serves the game well although the story is scant. The voice acting is good although also scant. My only criticisms, aside from the bugs, are: 1. the game is extremely lonely. There is almost no human interaction. The monsters are all robots which does the game a disservice and adds to the emptiness. 2. The checkpoint system aims to punish you, especially in light of what I describe below. HIGH RISK: you may not be able to finish Industria. I was playing the last areas, about 80% complete, and the saves were corrupted, except an older one. There was only one way for me to complete the game and that was to try to run through the last 20% but with no deaths. Death meant I had to go all the way back to one save that worked. WARNING: THIS IS NOT A RARE BUG.
