METAL SLUG X

Colorful masterpiece

Non-stop action, terrific soundtrack, constant variation with enemies and locations. It really is an excellent game, there is not much to add. The game runs on a emulator that replicates how the arcade machines were running it. In other words, it will slow down/stutter in certain levels.

The Saboteur™

Unique, open world title set during WWII

I mostly play open world and sandbox games. Unfortunately for me, I also like human history but it's difficult to find historical open world games. For instance, I bought Assassin's Creed just because I like to go around "historical" locations. Needless to say, when I discovered The Saboteur I could not stop myself from buying it. So what do you do in this game? You're part of the French resistance and take the role of a historical Irish character in Paris. Your job? To kill as many nazis as possible. Cool, but how is the game? The Saboteur is a good game, but it fails to deliver a truly consistent experience. This is explained by the fact that while there are several options to tackle objectives, the more viable approach is usually brute force. I tried to use stealth, however this game does not really suits this kind of playstyle. Too often enemies will see you behind a tree or you will have to face too many nazis at once. Stealth requires real planning and even some luck. This game is easy to play but hard to master. There is a main storyline, giving some break from your typical open world experience. There are also upgrades, many historical weapons and hundreds of "free-play targets" all over the city. I personally like The Saboteur but it's difficult to say "oh yeah, you should buy it". Sometimes it's a mixed bag and there is a strange learning curve, even though the game is supposed to be "casual". Optimization is not too good for some reason and I experienced few crashes here and there. For 5-10 bucks? I would reccomend it.

Metro: Last Light Redux

Hope. That's all we got.

A game with believable environments, dark surroundings and hopeless men. Oh, and nasty mutants that want to devour you. This is what we should expect from a nuclear disaster (hopefully not mutants). Artyom, the protagonist, never speaks. The incredible amount of details in little things make the difference, always. Is Metro the best post-apocalyptic series? I don't think so, but it's in the list for sure. Metro 2033 is probably bette the last light, but the first title in a series is usually easier to produce. Unfortunately the game is very railroaded but it's fine, because it's got a solid plot (Metro games are based on a book, called Metro 2033). About performance, I'm running it on a laptop i5 with 8 Ram and GeforceMX110. Just lower the resolution and the quality a bit, and you will be fine. Although the game is well optimized, it's better not to put everything on High, otherwise you will face overheating on weaker devices. People with good hardware can easily run it though.

Darkest Dungeon®

On the brink of madness

I was very sceptical about this game but then I bought it and boy, if it's good. Many possibilities, good amount of characters and an excellent atmosphere is what your're looking for. This game will really bring you to hell, mostly thanks to its soundtrack and its fantastic narrator, but also because your enemies will try anything to put your heroes down. Infact, the AI is above average and will usually attack vulnerable targets without mercy. And remember: there can be no bravery, without madness.

Port Royale

Worth it, for sure

Port Royale cannot be compared to Patrician III, but is definitely a good game. I find this game relaxing, entertaining and possibly challenging (especially if you set specific goals for your sandbox scenarios). Trading is well done, there are many towns to trade with, missions, pirates, you know that kind of stuff. Naval battles are more developed than Patrician III for sure. Overall, I reccomend this game if you like trading simulation with a historical setting. I'm playing on Win10 without problems at the moment.
