I bought this game hoping for a cool sandbox game based on 3.5 D&D rules. The character creation process was decent, but after that it all became disappointing. The dungeons are all the same grey grid squares with nothing to make them unique or interesting. Adventure mechanics are poorly explained. For example, my party constantly set off traps and there was no explanation as to this gameplay mechanic, leaving me feeling helpless and uninvolved. Combat is also vague and a left me with a sense of helplessness and confusion. For example, sometimes I would tell a ranged unit to just shoot an enemy, but he would automatically move and then shoot. Other times I could move and cast a spell, but not cast a spell and then move. I know 3.5 rules well and even so, combat felt random and punishing because it was unclear what would happen automatically. What I instructed my character to do and what they wound up doing were two very different things. I'm also not one who's big on plot and world building but this game has no story telling whatsoever and is just fantasy tropes and cliches. "Shipwrecked on an island trying to join the adventurere's guild"is the plot so far. The dialogue is also poorly written and doesn't always make sense- I suspect it's being translated from a foreign language. It also contains random swear words that just seem out of place and detract from the immersion of what little fantasy there is. This is, in essence, a weird sorta 3.5 D&D, combat simulator with nothing else really going on.
This game fully captures the fast paced excitement of old-school FPS games. It adds in some RPG elements for customization & individuality. The gameplay, graphics, atmosphere and music are all outstanding. To think that this game was made by such a small indie studio is truly impressive. The level of detail put into the game shows the dedication of the company. I mean, when you fire the shotgun, discharged shells bounce around on the ground. Five stars, outstanding.
the confusing interface of this game makes it unplayable and the design is riddled with bugs. the design is confusing and distracts from just enjoying the game. i worked hard to make a party of four samurai because that is awesome. i turn in the quest to make that happen and, well, only one of your characters can be a samurai because the quest item disappears because quests are turned in once at a time per character. Nothing in the game is clear so you have to constantly save & reload as you figure out what EVERYTHING does. this game is confusing, needlessly complicated, and terribly designed. it looks like an old school classic but stick with Might & magic or Wizardry.
This game is unplayable. The interface is clunky and accomplishing basic tasks, such as choosing or running a mission, is a huge hassle. Trying to do anything in combat is futile because the controls are terrible and the view of space is cluttered by computer screens. If you want to have the experience of trying to do anything outside the base then immediately getting killed, by all means waste money on this "game".
I found this game difficult to play because the mouse system of movement and fighting is awkward, the interface is inefficient, and the gameplay window is too small. The game environment is also dull and homogenous. It feels like I am exploring a house basement. Although I certainly don't expect an old game like this to have flashy graphics and a steamlined interfaced, unlike other games I have enjoyed from GOG.com, I found this title to be clumsy, boring, and therefore frustrating. I also had problems with the sound right away. Although I found the solution in the community forum, it was still inconvenient to correct issues before being able to play the game.
