Cyberpunk 2077

This is not an RPG

This game, despite what you may think, is not an RPG. Your decision of lifepath is next to meaningless. The story is very railroaded. And most of your dialogue choices are just flavor text. The story, despite what you may think, isn't very compelling. At least, not when compared to other RPGs, or even the other possible stories that the game implies would've happened if your choice of backstory wasn't rendered meaningless within half an hour of starting the game. Without spoiling anything, I was more sold on the plot I thought I was getting into in the Corpo lifepath at the start of the game, than the actual main story of the game. Additioanly, while Night City is a beautiful setpiece, it's as wide as an ocean, and as deep as a puddle. Most buildings cannot be entered. You can only really converse with a handful of people city wide. And many of the quests are pure shlock. There are some redeeming aspects to the game, like the combat, a handful of really well written sidequests, and the beautiful neon dystopia general aesthetic, but if you are considering buying this game on the basis of its plot, RPG elements, or the amount of freedom it gives the player to shape the story. Don't buy it, you will only be disappointed.

Shogun Showdown

Fun and interesting.

If you're someone who likes turnbased strategy/combat games, this'll be a great time for you. It's chock full of interesting moves and perks, which each change gameplay in a unique and interesting way. You can curse enemies to make them take double damage, freeze them to stop their actions, and even poison them to kill them over time. That said, while the game is very fun with a wide array of interesting moves, perks, and status effects to choose from, there are some times where it can feel a tad unfair. Some bosses will be immune to your status/special moves, some enemy waves will spawn in a way that leaves you out of position and vulnerable through no fault of your own, and sometimes you just can't seem to get the upgrade or weapon you really need. But even with the occasional frustration, Shogun Showdown is still well worth the time and money of any roguelite, turn based strategy fan.
