Asterix & Obelix XXL : Romastered

A flawed throwback

Nostalgia alone can't really carry this game, aside from the litany of graphical and often times physics glitches and plain bad controls of the boatride sections of the game, bad hit detection for airborn ennemies, amplified while playing with Obelix (landing on a platform with this character can also be a chore), awkwardly placed camera in game as well as in cutscenes, the biggest problem carried from the original remains the free camera, often times in higher difficulties you can find yourself dying through not being able to see the ennemies, or for instance, in the Egypt level, the game being a platformer, it can be exceedingly frustrating to succeed landing on crates surrounded by lava. Graphically, some sections do look more better and modern, though the original, striking a different chord, has a more cartoonish look, closer to the comic strip. Still a nice trip bag down memories lane. I concur it is better deserving of a 3/5, the remaster tag not really living up to its name, set aside the graphical overhaul, though as I think most the comments state, it probably remains a pick-up for those having played it as a kid. It most definitely carried its age and every flaw.
