King's Bounty: Dark Side

Best time waster in a hurry

I loved the KB series, saw this title, you can play as demoness, orc or vampire, full dark characters, being "evil" and making the good guys pay, simple, fun and keeps the original formula intact. Good for what it is, a very simple and fun time waster to play when you are in a boring meeting or need to burn some time before doing things or between things , what else you need to know?

A game to experience at least once

That is all ... A journey to travel through, an experience, a mood ...

Geneforge 2 - Infestation

Another flawless gem repolished

Like the title implies, this is just one more game from the long line of solid games made by Jeff that is now repolished. For veterans like me, this game is simply a new pass at a classic that thankfully makes gameplay smoother and pets more solid while keeping the amazing storyline and background lore shine even more. If you are new to the series, then I envy you a bit. Geneforge 1 - Mutagen and now this wonderful sequel Geneforge 2 - Infestation is just the start of an amazing journey in the world of the Geneforge, the Shapers and the Serviles. A very complex and interesting world full of mysteries, twists, turns and that oldskool feeling that some of us enjoy in isometric rpgs. Game is pretty simple, you start at the bottom and slowly as you explore the 80+ areas , which are small self contained maps, you gain levels and to make this exploration trip awesome, you can do it in many different ways, you can try yourself and do it in a stealthy diplomatic way with minimum combat, go swords and spells blazing or summon a small squad of pets to control and destroy everyone that stands in your path. I think that one of the things that has kept me a loyal fan of all of the Spiderweb games is the fact that Jeff, the dev, makes it possible to play the game in varied ways and the fact the endings reflect your major choices is just the cherry on top + the adjustable difficulty. You can literally play these games in any way you can and even when finished, the community has created an amazing mod to do a second or third playthrough with wholly different mechanics as well. There is a lot of replay potential here, and even though I finished the original 5 geneforge games several years ago, seeing these new remakes with improved mechanics is just the best way to spend a couple weekends having fun. Just try it, no regrets here.

Geneforge 1 - Mutagen

An amazing gem now remastered!

I have been playing Spiderwebs games for ages, and I always buy them when I can. They are truly labors of love, made by a single guy that wants to bring out good stories and very original worlds for others to enjoy. Having a blast replaying a game I played back in the day in the new improved version has made me burn several hours of my day already in bliss. Story is amazing, the world is very original and the fact you can play as a summoner with 7 pets is amazing, or a single pet maxxed out to godzilla levels, or a hack and slash guy or a rogue like character. All choices work well for the game and make its a true gem of indy gaming. Amazed at how great this game is even after all these years. Try it, zero regrets :)

Hellslave

A sollid and simple single character RPG

Was pleasantly surprised when I saw this game, bought it and starterd playing it. Im a sucker for dark gothic stories, and hellish lore, and here you can go along, at your own leisure exploring the story, which though simple is intriguing enough to hook u up if you into the darkness and satanic knowledge. I felt the money was well spent when I got an ability called SATANIC POWER ... I laughed and loved playing it casually to level 11 when I decided to do the review after 8 hours. A very good, simple, solid time waster with a bonus for the demonic and hellish trip,

Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail

My favorite game!!!

I got this as a kid as present ... From the start I was totally in love with it. The original box came with a LOT of floppies , the trusty 5 1/4 ones and with a gorgeous manual and map. I remember reading the manual with glee as I booted my super shiny brand new 286 with 33Mhz in turbo mode and being in awe of the story, the map ... wow, the map that came in the box! Then I was thrust into the body and adventures of King Arthur! Back in 1992 this game was eye opening for me and I spent weeks playing it. I remember having to solve the riddles one by one by having to ask people at the house, school and even family on the phone. I lived then in Venezuela, so I had to translate everything as well, so the game for me will always have a soft spot in my heart. I can still vividly remember my old room and my old trusty 286 as I spent hours upon hours trying to solve the riddles that a ring of stones presented you. You could not travel further on until you beat them, and they were many. On top of that I still remember The Old Ones, the old deities that cared not for gold, for it was a metal for new deities ... My childish mind blown away by all of this. I mean, yes, the story can be quite tame to todays standards, the mechanics and combat simple. But this is a vintage game from 1990! It was very well done and I loved the theme. There is scene tha I still remember in full detail, you being confronted by a thief and you sparing his life ... then something happened and I literally cried in rage at what happened next. This game, this game I lived through and through back in the day. I became a loyal Sierra fan with this game alone. Yes I sound like an old man saying they dont make games like this anymore, but then again, modernity makes all games different nowadays. I did not have internet and could only rely on my own wits, imagination and when fully stuck, either sleep or other people. Cant really play games like this anymore. BUY IT! Play it oldskool.

Codename: ICEMAN

IMPOSSIBLY HARD ... But Fun!

I played this game when it was new back in the day. Needless to say it was simply Impossible. From the in game enabled copy protection (correct CPR procedures to save someone dying in a beach) to the most annoyingly obtuse required sequences of play, you could literally play the game for several hours only to find out you cant simply advance at all due to a mistake at the start. What people fail to realize is that Iceman was made with the same mindset of some of the King Quest series. An error, by not fault of your own will invalidate progress further on. You are forced to play the game over and over until you get things right, and then on top of that, adding insult to injury, you are on some places, reliant on the most horrendous RNG mechanics to pass some parts of the game. I mean, if you are a modern gamer, this strange jewel of yesteryear will give you headaches and endless frustration. Even if you are a vintage gamer you will see how obnoxious this game can be! But then, some of these games shine due to the Nostalgia and the trips down memory lane that they bring upon you. I rated it 5 because this is a classic vintage game from Sierra that was probably made to pair up with the old Sierra Hot Line that gave hints back in the day (it was an 800 number) and that required you to buy the hintbook in the end haha. It is a very nice spy story wrapped up in a strange attempt to make a game artificially hard and that requires almost arcane composition of the parser commands in exact sequences. It is simply a piece of history Like many others I never finished it either and got stuck at the Underwater combat sequence like a TON of people .... One of my friends back in the day passed that sequence after he confessed he decided to try it for days in zombie mode and found out it was just RNG. I am not spoiling anything, game cant be spoiled, it is simply too bizarre to be spoiled as the only way to finish it properly is with a cluebook or walkthrough.

You get what you pay for ...

Unlike everyone else here it seems, I actually enjoyed this game TONS! I am a very old player from the VGA Planets PBEM era of space sims, before fancy sims like WIng Commander rolled in and crashed everything and made Space Sims something much more active. I remember beating Tie Fighter on the most extreme difficulty, it was a glorious era, but I also enjoyed VGA Planets and how archaic and simple the ui was. This game is a weird game of point and click and imagine all the rest as you play a make believe space sim where you can trade some stuff or simply grind around in space trying to conquer space systems using as a combat resolution mechanic a deck of cards. UI is something out of the 90s, same as the story, the lore, the ships, heck , even the bad guys are like a ripoff from the Wing Commande Kilrathi cat people. But it has a very simple charm behind it,and the first time I captured with my pirates the super end ship and began to destroy everything in my path and won the game with my chest full of medals and a nice title, it was well worth it. It is a quirky game, it is super strange by modern standards , I never played older versions but if a version 6 comes along I will buy it in a pinch even if its the same with a bigger universe and a couple more ships, it is quite addictive to me and the combat resolution mechanic with randomized "cards" (the way I see it in my mind) is actually fun and you get the hang of it after certain hours. Playing as a pirate is super fun, and if you learn to board ships you can upgrade yours relatively on the cheap and extreme fun factor. Just BE 100% sure what you are getting yourself into by watching a youtube video, it is truly a throwback to a long gone era, but for me that is the main appeal! 8)

Starpoint Gemini 2

Might have been better

I bought thisd game trying to re enact my vintage Freelancer experience. I was deeply mistaken. This game is ... simple, too simple to be honest without any appeal. I am not going to say I hate it or that you have to avoid it like the plague. It is simply NOT freelancer or a true Space Sim trader either, it is more like a 90s space game made by a small company with some interesting concepts but that is all, Get it on sale and waste a couple hours on it if you are bored, that is all.
