Prodeus

This could be Doom, but man it's hard.

So everything was ok until I arrived to Hexarchie gunfight 1. I had a good time with all weapons, I loved the artistic direction, the music, the feedback, the basic gun is, like I love them, very satisfying... And then there's this fight... Hard. Man hard, I pass one time, what's next is worse, I can't go further the level, I rage-switch to very easy mode... and fail again. I'll retry tomorrow cause I had four hours of the game today, but hey, man, very easy I mean... Just make the difficulty curve a little bit smoother. I'm talking about this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGVzpB9tgTo Man this is a punishment for what sin, anyway ? Overall, this has a lot of potential. I LOVE THE GUNS. I think the gun skins are important and you understood that. Prodeus is, to me, a mix of Doom 1,2,3, Brutal Doom, and Quake 2. Options are reat with graphic style switch. Just keep it this way but make it a little more player-friendly.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Jotun: Valhalla Edition

As Beautiful as it is boring.

I'll go straight to the point : I've been bored as hell playing Jotun. It's truly a beautiful game, with wonderful hand-designed levels, great looking bosses and foes, excellent music and sounds. But it's also that kind of title where you walk. You walk, you walk and you walk, over and over. Sometimes you find a new power, sometimes an enigma to solve, sometimes a boring fight with no difficulty at all. There's two kind of attacks, one strong and slow, one weak and fast, sometimes only one will work on some bad guys. Sometimes there are no bad guys at all and you just walk till you find one. The problem is, levels are so repetitive, same sprites all over one place, same floating ambient sounds in loop, that guy telling us stuff with his god voice, our hero-viking-girl telling us her classic story of suffering and it goes on, and on, and on... It's not a bad game, it's well executed, there are no bugs, but... So freaking classic and boring gameplay, so already seen elsewhere purpose (Titan Souls syndrome). I'm sorry but it's not worth the cost at all. Maybe Viking-Mythology lovers will like it. But if you're looking for a great game, just ignore Jotun.

Slain: Back From Hell

A Classic... Wannabe !

As Slain ! tries very hard to be a good game, I'm not happy to give him only two stars. But unfortunately, he deserves such a treatment, due to his countless imperfections. I was very enthusiastic to put my hands on such a good-looking old-school platformer, the trailer was cool, the music seemed to rock... What a disappointment. If, like me before I tried it, you want to buy this game, no matter the commentaries, let me warn you about the truth before Slain ! . 1/ The so-called "old-school" difficulty is really just the consequence of an excessive amount of the bad guys health points, broken hitboxes which aren't working well, sometimes too thin, sometimes too large, and a battle feedback which is ABSOLUTELY non-existent, I mean, it's just not there, and all this mixed up get you as frustrated as possible, just like what we all hate in the 90's games. The whole feeling of this game is spoilt. 2/ The pixel-art graphics is repetitive and not so cool past the first hour. At first you like what you see, like "woa such a cool dark-fantasy world dude", except that if you stay still for one second, you'll notice that's it's not pixel-art, but just a messy 2D graphical ensemble, lazily shaped and awfully designed. Pixels are just spilling all around the place, and eventually become a disgusting and unfinished amateur drawing. Awful. 3/ The music. I'm a metal-lover. But hearing the same musical loops over and over again of some very, very basical compositions, while having a bad day trying to get over the rest of this cataclysm... You want to have fun hearing metal, just launch Quake 2, Slain ! is not what you're looking for. 4/ The worst of it all beeing without a doubt an intolerable lag in the controls. Sometimes you can even push without a response. They just suck, no better word. Too bad, it could have been good. My two stars are for the idea. But it's not even close to passable. To sum up, do not buy it, it's simply a big failure, not worth your time or your money.

Metro: Last Light Redux

One of the best post-apo experience !

Logical sequel to 2033, and still one of the best first-person post-apocalyptic immersion experience to this day. Unique ruined-russia landscapes, even better than Stalker's, good shooting sensations with nice looking built-from-scratch weapons, and a well-written serious story that reminds us that war never changes ;-). Though totally linear, it's that kind of game which makes you feel like it's worth your money and your time. You like FPS, post-apo, total immersion? Just buy it and play it in the dark, you won't regret it. Notice that it requires a powerful system to run perfectly.
