The greatest RTS of its time, even better than Starcraft for the production management and large scale combat that abandoned the limited resource model. Only thing missing is the online Boneyards campaign that used to run, pitting thousands of players against each other daily with maps attached to planets with daily battles shifting the lines of combat until either Core or Arm won.
My siblings introduced this to me before I even turned 10. Simple to look at but well ahead of its time in so many ways. In some ways a HOMM precursor but lacking in tactical combat in favour of RNG resolution. Some features like vectoring production to other cities not seen in the HOMM series until HOMM4. Great game.
