After playing BioWare games, I was really happy to discover Larian. This is one of my favourite games of all time and I am still not tired of replaying it, years later. The turn-based combat is tons of fun and greatly improved compared to the previous game. The classes are completely flexible, which means you can mix any skills you want and create any kind of build you like. The story and the characters are interesting and there are a lot of different choices you can make. DOS2 has a lasting quality. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves RPGs, a good, immersive story and turn-based combat. I hope we'll someday see another game from this series.
In spite of the cut content, Inherit the Earth is one of those memorable and unique point-and-click adventure games. I first played it as a child and replayed it a few times since. The art style and characters are gorgeous. As an artist, I remember absolutely loving the concept art that is show at the ending credits. The world's lore is rich and possibly more interesting than the main story. It makes you wish there were more side quests and content to explore. Some of the puzzles are difficult when you encounter them for the first time. I would recommend this to anyone who likes anthromorphic animals and good old point-and-click adventure games. It is a shame that they never got to make a sequel. This world would be perfect for an MMO where you could design your own character and explore.
Lost Eden takes us on a wonderful adventure, with no combat whatsoever, in a world where dinosaurs and humans co-exist. The story follows Prince Adam and his companions on a journey to befriend and unite the people of the world and stop the Tyrann armies. This old gem has unique gameplay, is fully voiced and has an unforgettable soundtrack that plays a crucial role in bringing the atmosphere of the world to life. The narration is presented in the form of the pterodactyl Eloi telling the story many years after. The younger version of Eloi is the first of many companions that join you on your quest. During this adventure, you will have to find unique ways to befriend different dinosaur and human tribes that will each bring something to your noble cause. The out-of-this-world soundtrack composed by Stephen Picq, the beautiful dinosaur characters, the voice acting and the story are still enjoyable three decades later. I still listen to the soundtrack and enjoy replaying the game every once in a while.
Tyrian is a very fun space arcade game with diverse levels, ship and weapons upgrade system, fun and colourful graphic, a soundtrack that you don't forget and a bit of silliness on the side. You can even play it splitscreen co-op which is quite cool for a game of this type. Free or not, this game would definitely be in my collection as one of those memorable games I played back in the day and that I still enjoy replaying. I am not sure what some people are complaining about when it comes to the GoG port. This version works flawlessly for me. Thank you, GoG, for another golden oldie.
I don't think anyone who played the original could forget the unique charms of this game; the superb voice acting combined with memorable locations and an intriguing and emotional story that kept you going. I have recently finished the remake and greatly enjoyed revisiting this strange but lovely story after so many years. The improved graphics are nice and, as a great fan of point-and-click adventures, being able to use the mouse was a welcome addition. When it comes to gameplay, every object you can pick up has a use. However, I would say the game isn't easy. In a lot of cases the solutions feel a bit non-intuitive and I personally had to look up help a few times. I would definitely recommend this to both people who have played the original and those who have missed out on this unique gem back in the day. It's worth it even just for the superb voice acting :).
I played an emulated version of the original many, many years ago on PC, mainly because I love dragons. Like the original, this is a very fun and simple flying shooter game. The graphics in the remake are quite nice and lively, too. I should point out that the game is very short and you can beat it in an hour. Even though I mainly play games with a lot of story and choice, I found the simplicity of this game quite relaxing and even enjoyed the fact that I finsihed it so quickly. I ended up replaying a few levels just to get a better score. That being said, I did get it at a 90% discount and I don't think it's worth the full price - simply due to how short it is, no other reason.
An excellent adventure game from an equally-excellent series. Quest for Glory III was always my favourite because of the liontaurs and the Africa/Egypt-inspired setting. If you are a fan of point-and-click adventures filled with humour, mythology and a few puzzles, I warmly recommend Quest for Glory III and its sequels. This is still one of my favourite games of all time.
This was the first Heroes of Might and Magic and turn-based game I played as a child. I've loved the series and this type of games ever since. III is probably still the best Might and Magic game. Since I am an artist, the creatures inspired me to do quite a few drawings back in the day. The music in the game is also lovely and quite memorable. I would recommend this anyone with a love for turn-based games and mythological creatures. The game also comes with a level editor that you can use to make your own maps and scenarios.
