Cuphead is a boss oriented game(19 bosses) with 6 I believe short side scrolling platforming levels. I won't go deep into the game's looks and from where it's inspired. You can look at it. It looks fantastic. The game's aesthetics are 5/5. The rest is 0/5. By the time I write this, I have beaten 4 bosses in island 3 + run and guns which took me approximately 6 hours overall so it's fair to say I've given the game enough time to grow in me. Unfortunatelly for me and the 20 euros I've paid it didn't. Let me be frank, it's not about the difficulty. Given 1-2 hours extra I would probably beat it. My main problem is the design and the gameplay. Doing boss after boss with the same powerups following the same strategies feels dull. Yes you can have different types of firing and charm to have some short of variety in your game but it still feels the same. After island 1 you can be sure whether you like the game or not. The usual feeling of achievent when you overcome a challenge just wasn't there. Again, in this game there is no journey, no world to explore etc etc and the boss fights is basically all that is offered to you. If you are not into that kind of thing then you will be just like me. You will feels amazed by the animation in the first few minutes but you won't enjoy a single minute playing the game. So my suggestion is, take a copy from a friend or do something and put a couple of hours first in the game. If you still like then go buy it. You will enjoy the rest of it most likely. If not then you will save yourself 20 euros.
What the title says. Honestly it's by far the best platform game I've played in years. Must buy for anyone who like non linear platform games(backtracking and exploration). The gameplay is really nice with combat options like melee or range(magic at cost of mana tha you feel as you hit enemies or rest) and the controls are tight.
... and the developers deserve all the bashing they take. Where do I start? The game is a mess: Pros: -Furyis a nice character, and the voice acting is good. Also some puzzles are nice and the levels are okish. Cons: -30fps at full hd. Seriously??? -The camera is a mess -The DLCs are not worth a damn -The game tries to integrate Dark Souls elements and yet it fails miserably in almost every way. On top of that it sells itself as a Darksiders game instead of a darksouls and thus misleading long and faithful fans of the series. The thing is, it's not a good soulsborne game at all. And I've finished all of them. -The boss designs are awful. -You die after 1-2-3 hits -You can't break the defenses of an enemy unless you charge attack, but if you do he will attack you and you will take damage -The game plays like this:Bait, dodge, counter attack, repeat. -Since they were so fixated with Darksouls, at least they could have used the firelink mechanics where you fill your flasks and you regen your health. But no.... you have to die in order for that to happen. Or spent 250 souls to replentish one. -Boring powers -The Bosses suck. Nothing to see there. They are easy. It takes like 3-5 tries at most for each one. But they feel uninspired. There is nothing cool about any of it. -The concept that you play an all mighty horseman of the apocalypse who is killed by a skelenton in 3 hits is contradictory The developers in a completely dishonest way used the Darksiders ip , decieved the fanbase into buying their game. If I wanted to play a soulsborne title I would play Darksouls or Sekiro which are both excellent games. Those games deserve their money and praise. Also, the game is not optimized for PC, and the design is awful as I explained. After this fiasco, I won't be buying another game from them.
Unlike most of the people I didn't experience many bugs but my overall experience was really bad. I finished the game after putting over 100 hours in challenging difficulty settings with a slight change to the enemies settings which was set to normal. In other words the core rules. The game is a wasted potential. It could be so good but it didn't deliver for the following reasons: -Now the first part of the game was somewhat okish??? Still the difficulty spikes due to the devs' brainfarting designs and most likely lack of playtesting made it hell from time to time. The second part was awful. Actually it was so bad that I didn't even read the ending. I beat the boss and skipped the dialogues. -The story overall starts nicely. You want to win a prize after doing an adventure quest. Good that far. After winning the barony though and counter the first threats of your kingdom, the retarded epicness which is the bane inherited by bioware and baldur's gate 2 strikes. Since I don't want to spoil things, you get items and you fight enemies you shouldn't. -The writting fluctuates between band and diarrhea. -The kingdom management is even worse and pointless. Actually if combined with the fact that quest are time dependan makes things even worse. -Too many encounters on the road. -Awful UI by todays standards -DLCs content was abysmal for their asking price -Not even one companion has a interesting and in depth story Overall the game is a wasted potential. How can pathfinder 2 be an improvement??? Here's a couple of ideas. 1)Hire someone who can actually write, like Avelone or the guy from Disco Elysium. They will deliver and will keep the epicness at minimal levels. 2)Play test the game ffs. Seriously the game has difficulty spikes on core rules settings. 3)Remove the kingdom management but keep the timelimit for the quests. It was really nice. 4)The road encounters should be fewer.
I've been gaming for over 20 years and in that time I have experience buggy games with attrocious game designs but... nothing comes even close to this piece of crap. They promoted the game as a tactical real time rpg. Instead what you get is a real time tactical dota with no rpg elements. The combats are probably the worse I've ever experienced. You have to kill a certain amount of "creeps" or "enemies" and then you are off to the next combat. Zero decisions as well. I'd rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear(avgn) than play this pile of poo again. Real time tactical rpg... You have to feel cheated when they promote a game like that. You expect something like baldurs gate or something. Even Horizon games, you suck.
Play pitfall. The game has good music and nice pixel art but that is where there good ends. Really bad controls, and too many things that instant kill you like pits and nails. My overall experience has been terrible from this game.
Like the public enemy song. Pros: -Nice map designing. I really liked the whole world tbh. They did a really good job in that section so that people can allow to exploit differnt tactics in combat. -Nice graphics as well. The game is really beautiful. I am a sucker for isometric rpgs and this looks briliant. Cons: -Now this game IS NOT an RPG. It's more of a tactical strategy than rpg. The writing is so shallow and boring(with the rare excpetion of Fane for some reason) and the choices that you have are good or evil. The story is bang average. Save the world. OH YEAH! We are in 2018 and people still make games were the world needs saving. I call it bs. So yeah Larian you should really step up your game in writing. You have below average writting since divine divinity. -Difficulty scaling: They say that the options are easy. classic, hard and very hard. I say it's easy, very hard, impossible and stockholm syndrom. Learn how to scale the difficulty OMG! - Numerous journal bugs that results in various quests unable to be closed. - You need to take positions prior the fights begin. Now that would be good if you could see for example some monsters on the road for example. But there is not reason trying being tactical when you are initiating a dialog with everyone that might be an enemy or in a place where a battle will probably take place after performing a specific action. That is bad designing. - The AI is bad. It's 2018 and Larian didn't invested any resources doing a proper AI. So how are they counterbalacing it??? -By making the enemies a lot stronger than you. The enemies will eventually have more hit points than you. More armor, more magic armor and of course MORE ACTION POINTS. So how are you going to win in a combat where you are in a disadvantage? By using the best spell in the game. TELEPORT. There is nothing about tactical combat now. It's all tactical teleporting. I can't believe I've wasted so many hours to finish such a bad game. DON'T BUY
The game is full with bugs. It's been 20 days since it's release and still no patch. The game doesn't live up to it's predecessor storywise and gameplaywise. Brian Fargo and inXile decieved backers with false promises. I will never buy a game again from inXile. Also the game is very very short for 40 euros.
