This was a game I bought day1 when it came out back in 2016 and it just did not disappoint. I'm replaying it now that GOG got it and it's just pure rippin' tearin' heaven :) id/Bethesda/Microsoft/GOG - THANK YOU for releasing this absolute banger gem on GOG for us to finally immortalize! Now... how can DOOM Eternal be "eternal" if it's riddled with DRM..? You know what to do next... :)
Many are disappointed about this game not being exactly like the previous ones, but as is often the case with the game industry - sometimes you have to understand that at some point devs make a completely different game that still had to use the name of the series for "brand recognition" purposes. If you can ignore the series-based expectations - "Shadow Warrior 3" is a competent "Doom Eternal" clone (the influence is very clear - from the shotgun hook, to the arenas and the enemy categories/styles and the available arsenal to deal with it all). I had a fun time playing through the entire game on Game Pass - I wouldn't have finished it if it were bad or boring in any way, since I have a habit of doing that. There is plenty of action to be had and the relatively short length I don't see as a negative at all, since the game does not overstay its welcome - it felt just right. The only real gripe I have is the price. I'd buy a GOG copy to keep (because, again - I did enjoy the game), but will wait for the price to drop a bit more before pulling the trigger. Compared to Shadow Warrior 2013 and 2 - there's just better value to be had with the older titles, I'd say. But again - the game itself *isn't* bad!
First off - this is THE best RoboCop game out there. Does that say much? Not really, since all the other ones sucked, but I think this game was done right, considering the budget. Hiring Peter Weller to do the voice was a stroke of brilliance, IMO - it avoids the awkwardness that RoboCop3 (the movie) had with that other actor sounding completely off + Weller did a great job, in my opinion! Throughout the game you will find very accurate, almost 1:1 replicas of movie scenes/interiors/actions/weapons, which makes this game feel right at home. Obviously Detroit had to be shrunken down a bit to make it into a feasible "AA" game, but the spirit is there. Gameplay - it can feels low, but you can press Shift to sprint around, space to dash (once you get the skill) - it's not as bad as people say. Shooting is fun, the gore is satisfying, popping headshots with a mouse feels awesome. The weapon upgrade mechanic is, in my opinion, one of the better ones I've seen in games in recent years (you don't jist craft an upgrade - you modify the weapon to suit your playstyle)! It's a UE5 game, great assets, I played it at 4K maxed on my 4090 - it looks fantastic! The animations are not the best, but I totally forgot about them when I was immersed in the story/action, honestly. Now regarding people having crashes - I had NONE (pretty sure my friend who also plays had none either). It's a system issue with people's rigs, I'd imagine, because I can't explain the odd complaints otherwise. A couple of people not being able to sort their rigs out (or having incompatible software/hardware) shouldn't stop you from trying this game, especially with GOG's generous refund policy. Someone here also mentioned motion sickness - again, skill issue. You can turn off the view bobbing in the settings (why didn't they check before moaning?) and you can widen the FOV to 100 in the settings or more (I have mine at 120) via an ini tweak. Overall a great game, I really enjoyed it - money well spent!
Awesome game! I was told by a Nacon rep back in October that they were "in talks with GOG" over a release here, so I held fire on the purchase, as I'd prefer it on GOG. The day finally came! Great game, the guns feel satisfying, graphics look really good - so far I'm deffo enjoying it, even if there's some "not quite AAA" levels of jank, this being a "AA" game. That being said - would have been nice to have native HDR, but I had to get by with enabling HDR through UE5 engine ini tweaks.
Played this game when I was a kid. I really liked the realistic body damage - it made the guns feel powerful like few games do! Just finished the campain in about 2 or 3 sittings. Lots of action, great shooting galore, satisfying weapons and a wacky cartoon/comic style evil vilain plot. There are few games that I can come back to and say "this stood the test of time", but SoF is one of those games that could be released as a lo-fi "boomer shooter" in 2024 and you wouldn't complain. One things of note - be sure to install the SoFplus community patch - it will give you access to widescreen HD resolutions (1080p, 1440p, 4K, 5K, etc - whatever you want) and new graphical, gameplay and audio options. Do not forget to change the renderer to the one SoFplus adds to make full use of the patch with added AO, texture enhancement, bloom, etc - the game can really look like a decent 2024 boomer shooter if you do this. 👍 If you have mouse issues - weird skipping and uneven movement - reduce the pollrate to 125Hz, as this happens at 500-1000Hz. I think the SoFplus renderer fixes this, though - but leaving this tip in just in case (it works for other old games). Overall - worth the money and I think most gamers would find the damage model amusing enough alone to keep them entertained throughout the game. The fact that this works so well on modern systems now is a blessing too!
The description clearly says: "to access it, requires an online connection to a 3rd party provider"... Why is this sold on GOG? This will be useless the moment this "3rd party provider" shuts the service down! And that is antithetical to GOG's whole preservation mission!
Weebs are disgusting. End of story.
I tried this game on a whim, and HELLO?! Did not expect to get this hooked! This game manages to be both stressful and relaxing at the same time - one moment you're discovering fun little areas, the next you're left wondering how two enemies managed to whack and push you around into 20% health in a single turn..! The game is a little difficult at the beginning, but it eases you in, while still keeping you on your toes from time to time. This is also one of the best Early Access games I've ever tried - it's really easy to jump back in as updates come out, and there's plenty to do already. Excited for more! :D I wish I could do a 4.5 star review, as it's EA and definitely needs some QoL improvements - but 4 felt too little, especially with the dev being so active, so you get a 5 :')
