A small indie game that took the best aspects of games like Metal Gear and Splinter Cell mixed with the perspective and feel of a game like Hotline Miami, and still works really well. I didn't play the original one so this was a nice surprise, my only gripe is how the UI handles actions on bodies like looting, grabbing or executing which it can feel clunky when trying to hide or dispatch an enemy quickly but besides that a nice addition if you are into stealth games.
I was a surprised that the game was a roguelike so I was a little resistant at first, but the game won over with the deep interactions of your squad and but also simple to get a grasp. So if you like Metal Slug and tactic games is a no brainer to have in your library.
With a few a minutes playing the game I knew I would like it, but with that said Bleak Sword knows which kind wants to be. Combat centric, simple mechanics and hard encounters. The story is just for setup and the game is short. If all those things mentioned above are not a problem for you, give it a shot.
I've seen that some folks have reported game breaking bugs, but at least from my side everything perfomed perfectly. The game has very strong sense of style and charming aesthectic that goes from the visuals and music. Plus having an engaging game loop that ties the town management and combat very nicely, I would have like deeper combat mechanics, but as it is the sum of it's parts makes Cult of the Lamb easy to recommend at the end.
A CRPG game that tries a different approach to its story and encounters and succeeds mostly in all avenues, where is biggest asset is it's writing and the murder mistery that become deep rabbit hole that will throw you some curve balls in the way. If you're mildly interested, give it a shot. Now I understand what was the buzz around the game when it came out.
