It's kind of okay I guess

I pre-ordered Bloodlines 2 a long, long time ago so I was always going to play this even if it turned out like Duke Nukem Forever. This isn't terrible nor is it great. It's basically a walking sim and fist punch 'em melee combat sim stapled together. Rudimentary character customisation. Open world in looks yet extremely on rails. I don't hate this game but nor can I particularly recommend it. It's alright I guess. If you find this on steep sale check it out. It's absolutely not worth a full price though. Actually you know what, now that I think about it Observer from 2017 is a much better game in every way including graphics and immersion. Buy that instead.

Great fun & good story, could have more

Note: I'm new to the setting and never played the previous game so I can't compare it. I also played on easy difficulty because I am crap with action games. Bloodlines 2 looks gorgeous and polished, it has a gripping story and you are already a powerful vampire at the start of the game. Essentially it is a detective story within a kind of mafia-style power struggle, with fast fights in between and rushing over rooftops- and it sure is fun to fling enemies across the room, move lightning fast and teleport behind an enemy when you get that ability. Awesome stuff! On the flip side.... there's not that much happening in the city and while you pick sides in conversations affecting the outcome your path is very linear. For a newcomer you get loads of information about the setting, factions, characters etc thrown at you without time to appreciate it or easily find what you just missed, and you don't engage enough with the characters to care as much about them as the game expects you to. I also think it's a shame they don't really let you solve puzzles, which you would expect when playing a detective... Walking around in the city and picking up newspapers and books here and there, talking to the players you get the impression they intended to make a kind of Cyberpunk-like gameplay with loads of sidequests and in-depth stories for the major players involved. So to me it seems they decided a lot of contents didn't meet their standard or confused the main story so they cut it out, leaving the framework of an open world game with (almost) only the main story in it. Regardless, while it didn't meet its full potential, I had a lot of fun with it and if you like vampire settings and can spare the money go for it

Buggy and bereft of anything interesting

For the little bit I was able to play, it was miserable. Just as well that it kept CTD and getting me lost in the geometry.

Okay, so here goes

If you can't start the game in the GOG galaxy app launcher (it crashed to me with the paradox adds) then just go into the folder of the game, and find the game shortcut and just boot the game directly from there and don't bother with the galaxy one, because that one is trying to force adds on you which it cant handle and it crashes that out of the way... I went into this game aware that its no follow up to the original bloodlines. I knew this is not a RPG, so I kept an open mind, and got it anyway, because there are to few vampire games about, and I do love action, and an action adventure game this is. However, what bothers me in this game SPOILER ALERT: The parts where you stop playing as your character and instead play as the detective who is the voice in your head... his part of the game is so BORING... and SLOW:.. and not even important, as the mysteries he is solving, you already figured out anyway because its so obvious, and it just take your attention away from the fun... playing as fabian is not fun... its slow paced looking for clues... That aside, the parts where you play as YOUR character, is more fun, its pure action vampire combat stuff, and enjoyable.. so I can give this an average score.. but yeah, the game does have some charming bugs it shouldn't have, and some stutter in the open world
