Incredibly annoying mechanics
Games looks great and seems to have a lot of potential, but most/all of the mechanics are incredibly cumbersome and hard to use. Manual combat is absurdly slow and time-consuming, trade routes will get stuck and convoys will just sit in towns doing nothing, tasks/quests are poorly described so you often have to search a huge area manually.

Come, relax in The Caribbean!
*Warning, If You don't like slow games with lots of menus, charts and numbers - move on* But if You like this kind of games You will love it! For me building up your towns and fleets is very rewarding but most importantly relaxing. The atmosphere of the game is also done very well with calming sea side sound effects and orchestral music.

Good update to Port Royale 3
Biggest update to PR 3 are turn based sea battles and I like them (not so chaos and more strategic). I have still some points to improve. 1. Tactics limit could be bigger than two but i can be limited two uses per battle. Current version you cant use them if you need to save them for tight battle. 2. Manual sales could have some quick way to sell goods until price you have determined. Maybe double clicking goods icon. (you have determined that double clicking sells grain to price 55 so you can only double click and it sells grain until price reaches 55 or your convoy runs out of grain.) Same would work with buying. 3. AI should use its tactics in naval battles. In current version with very hard sea battles AI uses only some of tactics. I have never seen AI using reload or turn tactics and that is why battles are too easy. 4. In building mode there should be names in existing buildings.

P.R.4 could be better
The music & SFX are great. The Port Royale 4 graphics are good. The info menu/GUI need polishing and the A.I. makes wealth/empire building too tedious. overall the game is entertaining but becomes tedious over time.

No Training Wheels
Port Royal 4 is a fun, unique, albeit difficult to strategy game to get into. There are a series of useful tutorials that you can access in order to better understand most functions of the game, however, the campaign doesn't offer much in terms of progressive skill building. It's like jumping on a bike and figuring out how to ride it without training wheels. For some, I think this is a great way to experience a new game. To often games go way overboard with the handholding. Once comfortable with the games design, it is quite enjoyable and can offer many hours of entertainment.
