Not a good update
Waarfare and batltles are sub-optimal, sequential, predictable and quite forced. Add to that overwhelming numbers of irritating attack messages when warfare breaksout and the game just isn't fun.

Great fun!
I tried it for a while and if you like almost like 4X gameplay it's really fun. You're mostly playing far above and making trade routes and it quickly becomes really abstract. Then a fight breaks out and you're positioning boats in turn based combat which was a lot more interesting then I thought it would be. I don't get all the complaints. It's a fun little game.

Hours of fun
This is a fantastic trading game. requires a nice balance of stratagy and planning. The tutorial is helpful and the game passes the time in the day. With different stratagies, the game can be played in many different ways. Different countries to sail for or just be a pirate and rule the seas.

Port Royale 4
I've haven't played long, primarily because I can't get the damn ships to move! Feel like I've set up 'trade routes' correctly, but the ships simply won't budge. I'll keep trying for awhile.

Campaign needs to be a learning experience not a beat down. No matter what I try I can't profit past Hawkins attacks. Waste of time.
