The Legend of Kyrandia (Book One)

I played this when I was younger and did have fun playing it, but the mazes drove me crazy. They're not hard, but quite tedious to get through - you'll need to map it out on paper if you really want to play it old school without a walkthrough. The art is wonderful though and I love the music so it did make playing the game a lot less painful. The story is simple but the gentle sense of humor is cute. Some puzzles are easy to figure out, but there are some where you have to try to figure out what works with what with very little hints to go on. On top of that, it's very easy to die or put yourself in an unwinnable state, so saving your game often is a MUST. Also, there is some pixel hunting! For me, it had been so long since I played this game, so I have no regrets about buying this game, but, even though I did enjoy it after so many years, I think it will be quite a few numbers of years more before I play it through again. I'm not sure if I can recommend this to new players because of it's frustratingly unrefined rules of adventure game play, but if you want to know what it was like for us back in the day when we were young and didn't know what we were getting ourselves into and want to experience adventure gaming the way we did, then I gladly recommend it highly! You can then come to review this game and commiserate with the rest of us older adventurers about how it all was when this was all so new!

Played this when it first came out and I don't remember it being this hard. I resorted to walkthrus for hints and maps as often I had no idea what to do next. Still, it was enjoyable. I can't imagine how I got through it originally when most of the time the only way to get hints was from a hint line you had to pay for. Going to get Kyrandia Part 2 next. Not sure about Part 3 as I remember that was hugely difficult.

The Legend of Kyrandia plays out a classic King Arthur-like story, and plays it well. A young prince is hidden from the forces that seek to harm him, having no knowledge of his heritage. Trying to help his family, he finds out who he really is, and becomes the hero that the land needs. Add a pinch of humour that I loved then and still love it now. Add loveable characters, nice music and landscapes. As to the things that many reviewrs complained about. 1. Yes, you can die a lot in this game. Solution: save frequently and in different slots. 2. Yes, the dark maze of Legend of Kyrandia is infamous for being large and deadly and frustrating. Solution: there's a MAP of the maze in the game documentation, with the fireberries clearly marked on it. 3. Some of the puzzles are hard to crack. Solution: there's a hint book that comes with the game, that offers several levels of hints (subtle ones, explaining ones, just go THERE and do THIS ones). Highly recommended to everyone!

Коротенькая игра (по сегодняшним меркам), местами нелогичная, загадки решаются методом подбора, а лабиринт...это обитель зла во плоти! В доинтернетовское время, поиск решения доводил до бешенства, а потом до ближайшего рыночка с пиратками, и книжечками с прохождением. Это вам не гуглить знаете ли! Но, при всём этом, невероятно сколько деталей и красоты вложили создатели в это произведение. Это просто пиксельартовый шедевр! Музыка, 8-ми битная музыка, но очень мелодичная и в каждой локации своя. Небольшие диалоги и размышления главного героя полны сарказма и юмора. Кирандия, несмотря на годы, порадует глаз красивой стилизованной картинкой, заставит местами очень поразмыслить, порадует нетривиальными моментами в диалогах, ну и познакомит игрока с тем, какими были игры на ПК много-много лет назад))

First of all, after completing Kyrandia I must say that Kyrandia I has treacherously simple user interface and, secondly, it belong to the class of games that you can do some fatal error that force you begin all over again or atleast load a save. It is a true gem of oldtimes gaming with true magic & legend and not some "alien invasion" explanation to the worlds state but a true classic "bad and evil" and a happy ending. The puzzles are simple, but sometimes difficult to get a hold on them. The graphics are a sheer beuatiful scenes that are a delight to the adventurers eye. Game world is very convincing and has the elements every game has to have after Quest For glory or King's Quest's and are almost like Kyrandias Counter Parts for it. I recommend for every adventure gamer.
