Too oldschool even for old player

It's obviously a niche game. I've enjoyed Wizardry 8 (although haven't finished it). I've also played Wizardry 7 at the time. I've played more of this genre like Eye of Beholder series, Dungeon Hack (a spin off from EoB), Lands of Lore, Anvil of Dawn, Stonekeep, M&M6-8 (which all are newer to Wiz7, but anyway). So I've decided to give this game a try. Right now I can only say, I can't enjoy this game, and the main reason is that it's terribly boring. Nothing is explained -- which could be tolerated if the game had value. It's basically turn based combat with little sane choice for the player. The combat is SLOW. I haven't noticed a single fresh idea in game that could keep me playing. I really mean there are games of this genre which deserve to be played over this. Two stars for the devs effort. P.S. Mad because can't refund working game on GOG.

Simply unfinished...

Kudos for sticking to his own ideas, but I fear the dev alone is stuck in the early 90s and the game remain "unfinished". Sometimes we need outside eyes and heads to move a product forward, so not allowing objective critics only makes the game suffer even more. The underplaying engine/programming might be impressive but the game suffers from serious design flaws. The UI is atrocious, clonky and all over the place. To much spacing/padding. Terrible UI graphics. Slow fights. Sometimes you need to click 2-3 times before it registers in the config menu. Even W7/W8 was miles better. Can't skip intro. The game doesn't seem to accept input when there's something scripted or in a fight, not even pause or config menu. In fullscreen the mouse doesn't stop at the border of the screen and just continues on so same amount is needed to get back to the UI border. Scaling doesn't work in fullscreen so 75% of the game is outside the screen. If that happens, your only option is to ctrl+alt+del, terminate the game and then deleting the config file. Forget alt+tabbing when you need to, the game refuses to let go... I did like the music however. Maybe it's just me but there's a hint of Babylon 5 inspiration in there, hehe, I don't know. I also liked the animation and the graphics in the game world overall. I want to like the game but the controls and UI makes it extremely frustrating. I also think the magic/stat system is underutilized, and the game seem to be really really hard at first, and then it gets super easy. And so far the manual doesn't exist. Oh yeah, there is nothing in the story that really drives you so I'm 'inclined' to conclude that this game is only for hardcore grognards (search techraptor review) that just love nothing but random encounters / turn-based fights. And, to think that this game at one point costed over 30USD when it first came out, and, in worse shape than now, is just out of this world.

Don't support this developer.

Yes, I'm aware that reviews should be based on in-game experience only. However, my in-game experience was hampered by the fact that the developer is so malicious and hateful that it made me not want to continue playing this game at all. First, let's talk about the game itself. It is an ambitious game with lots of content and an homage to Wizardry 7 and similar games of old. However, the UI is very clunky, the itemization is mediocre at best, and the gameplay is terribly unbalanced. If you manage to get past the clunky UI, prepare to breeze past certain monsters and then get one-shot by others. There is still some fun to be had despite all of this, but you'll have a better time revisiting those classics or playing some of the amazing, well-balanced gems available on this website (Tower of Time, anyone?). Unfortunately, the developer chooses to ridicule and insult paying customers who paid upwards of $40 for this game. He also bans anyone on the Steam forums who speak negatively about the game, or complains about things like the poor balance or UI. Even people who complained about things like the guide not being released when it was promised were met with bans, insults, and had their posts deleted. Anyone who dislikes the game he calls names like "snowflakes" or "homosexuals", or goes off on a borderline non-sensical rants usually about how he is right and you are an idiot. He seems to be very proud of being (what he even refers to himself as) an "internet bully," and he makes blog posts with hateful rants about homosexuality, black people, women and even "charlatans" like Stephen Hawking (nobody's safe from this looney!). If this type of behavior and outright bigotry doesn't bother you, and you can look past the massive flaws of the game - you may find some enjoyment in this. I personally do not want to support someone like this. Luckily, he can't ban me or remove my review from GOG, so I thought I'd spread the word to those who care about who gets their money.
