One of the best since the golden days

Dont own it on GoG yet, but finished it on another store. Quite frankly one of the best point and click adventures since the golden days. Excellent plot and well written characters, even side characters who only get bit parts are fleshed out. While the main theme of a team who work in the shadows against supernatrual threats have been done almost to death, many times before, the unique twist and turns this game take are well worth it, especially one twist is especially glorious. One thing, thats either a pro or con depending on your patience for moon logic is that, it's pretty light on the puzzle side, all the different chapters take place in a limited area, so no need for backtracking over the entire map to find that obscure item you need and since you pick your team every mission and they have unique skills many puzzles can be solved in several ways. The only complaints are minor ones, the engine is a little wonky sometimes when it scale character models, who move around and animations are quite limited. There are also some of the voice acting that's a little uneven and didn't really fit the character. But this is starting to be very nit picky. Get this game. It's a true gem.

Worth it.

This was great! The story and characters drew me in, the puzzles are straightforward and not unfair, and overall it was a fun worthwhile experience. The central idea of the story is finding redemption after having spent a year under demonic possession. Things unfold in a compelling and unpredictable way. The setting and characters are very reminiscent of urban fantasy books like the Dresden Files, and the October Daye series. I liked it enough to want a sequel or an isometric RPG set in this world, although the ending is satisfying and does complete things well. The puzzle solving feels secondary to the story elements, but I didn't mind that. Nothing was particularly difficult so it keeps things moving nicely. The only time I got stuck was when I didn't examine a scene enough and missed an object that could be picked up, but that only happened once near the beginning. You can tell that there are different ways of completing missions depending on which characters you select to head out with and which background you select to start with. I appreciated things not being totally linear that way. The graphics look great and the voice acting is well done. I like it enough to replay it at some point for the sake of trying out the different starting backgrounds and using different companion characters in the various areas.

Delightful urban fantasy romp

Great art, great music, great voice acting, great characters, great story! I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's narrative-driven - lots of conversation, with some puzzles, but they are not overly challenging. The game is forgiving and leads to minimal frustration - it's great as some fun to wind down with in the evening. Moral choices add just enough tension to make it feel real, but not so much that it'll keep you up at night. I had some reservations that this would feel like a clone of the Dresden Files, but its take on urban fantasy felt just like it was a good example of the genre rather than trying to capitalize on others' success. I only played through it once, but I found it engaging enough that I want to read more about the characters and what might have happened if I had made other choices in the game. Highly recommend!

The best wadjet’s game so far

This game reminds me of my beloved VTM Bloodlines by its setting and also of some old character-rich rpg (NWN2? DA?) And it’s a point-click adventure. Weird, huh? There are a few things I usually dislike about wadjet titles (although all of their adventures worth playing I must say): - Oldschool point-and-click where you have to do a bunch of actions on each item on each screen to eventually find a way to interact properly - Whiny, angry and constantly pissed off main character which is hard to associate with :-P - Sometimes pixel art is too pixel. This one actually solves all of this. The interaction is much more optimized, the graphics are masterfully drawn and the main hero does allow some roleplaying. Plus there is a lot of non-linearity since, well… no spoilers here, but you can have different allies in different situations. P.s. I’d love to have a second part, too bad it probably won’t ever happen…

Good Point & Click Adventure

Unavowed is a point-and-click adventure game in the urban fantasy setting. There is some flexibility regarding the puzzles - the several companions to take on missions provide different options for the solutions. The puzzles themselves are mostly logical, though occasionally it is required for the player’s character to obtain information from NPCs before continuing, even if the player has understood the solution. Additionally, there are some options for the character customisation (name, gender, background) and the quest order and outcomes. The game can be played with mouse only, with the right mouse button to highlight interactive items and the left to interact with them. Also there are subtitles, full optional voiceover, optional hints, and manual saving in several (20+) slots. The controls are not rebindable, the settings kept resetting between game sessions.
