Good game with engaging characters. I was emotionally invested in the lives of the characters, so much so I wanted to know what happened to them after the game concluded.
Ending is satisfying.
Plays for about 8 - 10 hours depending on how experienced you are with adventure games.
Apart from a couple of puzzles, this one is pretty light, and most puzzles seem fair.
I loved how social/alive the game felt with all the chatter, and how you get lots of options.
Lots of different cases also, travelling to different parts of the city - you never get bored.
I really loved the music! I often stopped for a minute just listening to the music and the rain pouring down, so relaxing! ;D
One of the better adventures I've played.
Story maybe got a bit messy towards the end...I liked the first half better anyway, and would have prefered not having the "twist", but oh well...
As I see many people are thrown off this game because the protagonist is silent - well, I did wonder why it is so but then thought - meh, the devs are just saving a few bucks, no matter. It's a minor spoiler that the silence is actually a part of the story but it looks a letdown at first anyway.
Then at one point an NPC suggested that I grabbed a wrong companion - so I went back to the starting screen to exchange companions like I did a few times before but was surprised as there were no way back to the subway - oops, a bug, I thought... No, not a bug, devs just didn't bother to prepare me for this.
But despite there are a few things that look like a bug - the game itself is quite good. It is not very solid and storytelling is not that smooth, the puzzles are not very hard, and your choices are not of immediate consequence to the plot, true. Still somehow it made me finish it in one sitting (mind you, it's not short, it took me around 6 hours), plus as there are different ways to solve the chapters depending on which companions you take with you - I'm sure I'll return to replay it with different choices some day. Also maybe I can find a better ending than the ones I saw - both were, well, a letdown if not disappointment.
To sum up, the game COULD be better but it is GOOD anyway. If you enjoyed Blackwell series - it's more or less an expanded universe so be sure to try it out.
PS I expected some kind of achievements system to see how fully I have explored the game but there is no such thing here. Why? Maybe I just missed it somehow?..
It felt like they went way over the top trying to include all various mythological creatures. It gets increasingly difficult to suspend the disbelief as the list of creatures increase. I'd have preferred them to focus on one certain type of super natural beings (like demons, anyway central to the plot) and make an as good job as possible with that, going a bit deeper. Now instead, within the first hour you'll encounter interdimensional plant people, demons, fire elementals, djinns, fire mages, a living house, ghosts and dryads.
The game is fun though. Level design is great. Good puzzles. High replay value for anyone wanting to try how different areas are solved with different party members etc. I just wish the plot had been better.
I think anybody who has played preious games from Eyewadjet will agree that Unavowed is their next step in creating games.
Well I don't know if allowing the personalization of the character is such a rich idea I've only tried one run with the "cop" profile" and yet I'm under the charm.
This company has developed many good games in the past and the "Blackwell" feeling is strong here, they're manipulating themes they are used to and bring them a step forward.
Well it's a point and click. A fairly light one like their other games. puzzles are not that complicated and to be honest, you are helped by the very limited number of places you're able to visit during each cases. Now they have added replayability with the choice of companions for each mission. That's a very interesting thing while frustrating when you encounter something or someone from who you could have learned more if X or Y was in your team. But that's part of the game
What I think they could have given is the ability to revisit past areas to be able to assist to events we left behind because we hadn't the good team on hand.
Well the writing is rich, the characters are all very well crafted and we live with them, among them. We want to know them. And I'll certainly have a second run anytime soon, trying another character for what it can change.
Have fun, it's light, so seasoned players fill get bored I guess, but for those like me more interested in the story than in the difficulty, it's christmas before December !
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
