a relic of the 90s. product of the time
whoooo want some wang? you no mess with lo-wang! yes, build engine game with the great offense of being a 90s game. owning the shareware i never truely experienced the full game when it was new. lately i played the whole game in dosbox ipx-tcpip multiplayer to the end. it has its own unique setting, enemies, environments, and abrasive charm.

BUILD Engine Greatness
In much the same way Duke Nukem 3D was a parody of 80s and early 90s action movies (bring Duke 3D back to GOG, Randy), Shadow Warrior is a parody of 80s and early 90s kung-fu flicks. The one-liners are fun, the weapons are all great to use, and the enemies are exactly as challenging as they need to be. It can get quite a lot more difficult than Duke 3D, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Level design works really well for the most part, and there are only two "episodes" - the shareware episode is one and the rest of the game is the other. So except for one part, you don't have to quit out and start a whole new game just to progress through the campaign. Some people might find it "offensive" or whatever but those people miss the point entirely and should not be trusted. Get this game. It's free. If you don't want to run it with DOSBox (which runs perfectly fine if you configure it properly) you can get a source port like BuildGDX or VoidSW (a fork of eDuke32 meant to work specifically with Shadow Warrior) and run it that way.

Sticky bomb has a new friend!
THE most fun I've ever had with a multi-player death-match game :) The single-player is funny but nothing special after D3D, the fun really starts with a couple of friends... NUCLEAR MISSILE READY!

Just a side note
All the good things about Shadow Warrior are said. What I personally dislike around Shadow Warrior is NOT the game but how some people try to impose their political correctness nonsense on this game. No, it is not rascist just because it redicules stereotypes, oddities and sexism. If you can't understand irony, sarcasm or generally humour - please kindly fuck off. Politcal correctness in all its varieties is practized fascism - twisting words like in the George Orwell's novel 1984.

One of my favorite shooter games
Ahh, Shadow Warrior, one of my favorite 1st person shooters. I think I only had the shareware version as a teenager but I played it over and over again. I also liked Duke Nukem 3D but the ninja setting of Shadow Warrior was even more my cup of tea. How revolutionary it felt to slice enemies with a sword! Imagine, that was a new thing in a game like this. Anyway, this was the first game I got to my new Linux system. It worked really well and I played through the original game plus the expansions. I have to say the Wanton Destruction and Twin Dragon episodes weren't as good as the original game, since the levels were more individual. (I liked how the original levels seem to pick up where previous one ended. That gave a nice feeling of journey.) There is of course some tasteless humor that someone might dislike. I didn't mind it, but I was overall more in for the action. The controls, weapons, and occasional vehicles just feel very satisfying. Since the classic version is free now, check it out if you want some action! (and if you like it but would like better graphics, then maybe try the redux version. I haven't tried that one yet.)
