Renowned Explorers: International Society

Surprisingly satisfying tactical rpg, deeper than expected. Don't expect a fallout-like though, let's say it's kind of an Expeditions : conquistadors but more simple.

Fun and campy, but sometimes quirky tactical game. Friendly, Devious, and Aggressive playing styles and various emotions have different effects. Lots of wolves, sheep, cats and cultists. Lots of secret places, treasures, and battles. Each game is a bit different, even with the same missions. But some of it is just weird- only male belly dancers? NPCs hitting on and attacking opposite or same-sex player characters? Some of the campiness devolves into bizzare.

Good ole strategic fun! Easy to play in 20 minute bursts or even long sittings. Looking forward to more DLC and options!

Abbey Games has done some fantastic work! So far, they have only published Renowned Explorers and Reus, and both games have been some of my favorites. I love the creativity they have put into the game mechanics. I love their artwork and animations. I love their humor. I love how their games have excellent replayability without being a time-sink. I love how smoothy the games are optimized (never lags, never crashes). And I love especially how "clean" their games are. Renowned Explorers is an incredible game, in every respect. An awesome game to play with my 6-year old daughter! We've had a blast playing the game occasionally for the past year. ... Until the last update. On my Windows 7 PC it refused to start, asking now for some d3dcompiler_47.dll On my Windows 10 new Dell notebook it started once, crashed in the menu, and refused to start ever since (black screen and nothing). It took me almost 2 hours to try various options until I found out that it is possible to roll back updates. Seriously, this is not good. Why did they even do the update? GDPR? It should be possible to introduce it without ruining the stability of the game. Rating of 4 stars until this mess is fixed.
