Playing this game for the first time. After seeting it up to use OpenGl (More stable on my end). The game works most of the time. It is less open compared to the other games of the franchise but it is a great start to know the full story of our Agent 47.
My main gripe is that on my end., If I restart a mission 4+ times it will crash. So going to the main menu and load the mission again is a better workaround.
This was my first Hitman. Replaying it after 20 years hasn't changed my 5 star rating. I consider it unique despite its tech limitations, but it's compensated by its good game design.
The story and musicalization do their part too.
There are many things going for Hitman Codename 47 but at the end of the day the game is so incoherent and stupid that it looks as if it was sabotaged on purpose.
Virtually every mission has a huge design flaw that makes it a pain to go through, an unfun puzzle to solve and a detestably frustrating challenge.
Sometimes, we can call a flawed work of art "a diamond in the rough" but Hitman isn't that. It's more of a wonderful painting on which someone would have thrown mashed potatoes.
A few flaws are so huge, detrimental to the gameplay and their presence make so little sense that it's even outstanding that they are even there, because it would have been so easy to remove them.
I like the fact that there's no save. It's a good feature. But, how could the developers not realize that it meant that 99% of players wouldn't go further than level 04 ?
This Game is like replaying an old 3d gta game eg. Gta 3 or VC. Fun but the lack of a checkpoint system and certain missions and sections are very tough.
This is the first Hitman game in the series, but I would only recommend playing it for nostalgia or if you really want to see where things started. The graphics have not aged well and the controls are difficult to work with. You're better off playing something later in the series.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
