Did you ever want to reroute power to the shields, set phasers to stun,
or even eject the warp core? Well, now you can! In FTL, you experience the
atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a
dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with
multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down
your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape,
power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the
fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation
roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure
through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
FTL's complex strategic gameplay allows you to give orders to your crew,
manage ship power distribution, and choose weapon targets in the heat of
battle. You will encounter unique alien lifeforms and technology. You can
upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien
races. Be the Captain you want: hundreds of text based encounters will
force you to make tough decisions. In the randomized galaxy each
play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your
decisions. Each time you play another challenging session of FTL:Faster Than Light, it won't be quite the same.

Quick play sessions (from 5 to about 90 minutes) will allow you to add that spaceship commander feeling to any of your days.
Nice graphics, beautiful music and a gameplay, that can drive you crazy. You captain a small cruiser through space and civil war, Always on the run, always under preassure and always the slave of RNG. Get used to frustating series of deaths, where the game throws anything at you what it gots and no skill level will save you. You die, a lot. And that is what keeps the the gameplay fresh, you never know whats in stock for you this time. But this RNG driven gameplay costs FTL in my opinion the 5th star. After dying 5 or more times in the 1st sector against completely overpowered enemies, well its getting a bit old. The game still has balancing issues in normal and hard mode. Because winning does not feel like skill, more like luck and good RNG. Its like winning against a nice looking excel spreadsheet.
I love it and hate it, then love it again and hate it again. This game is brutal. Makes you plan every move, think twice about every decision, regret every mistake... These are the ups. Downs? I don't like the graphics style, but this is subjective. It is very hard to unlock any new ships, you don't gain practically nothing from death after an hour's play - besides the leson you have learnt :). ALthough i do not regret spending time on dyng here, I will not finish the game. not today :)
I think there is a lot of wasted potential.
Due to the fact that you are being pushed forward the entire time, you can, at least in theory, reach the end very quickly. Unfortunately I think theres is far to much rng in this game. You can find very powerful items right at the start of the game or maybe not at all. This has a significant impact on the games difficulty. So far I only tried the easiest setting but still had to try several times to reach the end. Just today, after several, sometimes even successful games, I tried again and died in the first minute of the game. No chance whatsoever. RNG just said no.
At least in my opinion, the outcome of a game is far to much dependent on rng than on the skill of the player. But for 2,39€ I had some fun (and frustrating) hours with this game.
