Spitting the sand of Monkey Island from my mouth, I wondered if the life of a mighty pirate was all it was cracked up to be. I'd ignored recent events that should have been warning shots across the bow of my soul, from my wife's brush with death to the anti-pirate ramblings of an Australian gazillionaire. If only I'd chosen a different path, LeChuck might still be dead and the Ultimate Insult might have remained a mystery. A charming and enjoyable adventure game

Escape from Monkey Island is a charming and enjoyable addition to the series, well worth playing, despite certain tedious puzzles and visuals that (while I personally found them quite good) are a bit dated by modern standards. The writing is excellent, and the humor in the game works quite well. The game never takes itself too seriously, and is incredibly fun to play, which is the most important aspect of any Monkey Island game.

Nice game - a bit lame

Nice typical Monkey Island style game. But there is a little too much talk and the whole jokes / quests is a bit too tame. Self-referentiality has been pushed a bit too far, too.

A superb adventure game

This is probably the worst Monkey Island adventure game - I really can't decide between this one and the one Telltale Games made - but it's still such a great adventure game. I had loads of fun with when Escape from Monkey Island was originally released, and I am finally going to have a great time with it again thanks to GOG. The only really sad part about this game is that now, many years later, it looks much worse than the Curse of Monkey Island, which was released three years before the Escape. Otherwise, it's still more or less pretty-looking and sounds amazing even now in 2018.

The worst in the series

I really wanted to give this game another shot but I just can't stand it: Really ugly graphics, even for the time, annoying controls, sub-par humour (especially compared to the earlier ones) and a narrative that just annoyed me. Even the puzzles feel off in so many ways. I can only recommend this if you are a hardcore fan. If not, skip this game and head straight to Tales of Monkey Island instead.
