Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

A lot of the other reviews have explained the game well enough, so I'll focus on my own experience with it. I am generally not a huge JRPG fan, and most of the "classics" never appealed to me. I do like Western-style RPGs, and have played a lot. This game tries to bridge those two concepts, and that's why I think it instantly grabbed my attention when I originally rented it from a local CD-renting shop in the early 00's. In its core, it's a JRPG with very light RPG elements, which I think is OK; what really sold the game to me was the toning down of J-elements, as well as the setting that I thought was super unique at the time (even though it wasn't 100% unique). As with most games, I started it multiple times as a kid, never getting much farther than the first visit to Shell 7. Years later I bought it on GOG, played it all the way through, and had a blast. If you like turn based RPGs with light RPG elements, and decent but not great voice acting, definitely look into this game and consider buying it. The goodies in the Deluxe Edition are especially good, in my opinion.

Actually the game's not that bad, good story and good gameplay. The only drawback is you can't skip combat most of the time and the animations are way too long to be a enjoyable experience... sometimes you don't know what to do even after talking with every single soul in sight. So, this game is not for everyone, keep that in mind

Septerra Core would be an average game on consoles, but the lack of JRPGs on PC make it someway "special". The graphics don't look specially good, the voice acting is pretty much terrible and the gameplay is nothing you haven't seen on Playstation or Super Nintendo, but the interesting story and this console-like charm make it still a good game. And not only a good game, but a unique game for rpg lovers who don't have a console. Well... you can always play Square crappy ports of Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

I first played this when I was young, back in the 90's, for Win98 and a few more times later. It's battle mechanics work much like Fallout 1 and 2 where it takes time for attack bars to fill and have three tiers of strength with assorted skills in each tier. This has a great story that keeps you moving between floating continents called Shells collecting different companions from each to save the world from a guy bent on becoming some kind of god-like being using the planet's core. Honestly, well worth time and money.

This game is even better than other more mainstream RPG games.
