Decent game but battles are so slow
Septerra Core is a decent RPG for the PC in the JRPG style. 9 characters to play as and lots of places to explore for items and experience. The quest will last you many hours. Characters attack one at a time or together via magic cards. Attacks are broken up into 3 charges of strength making for some strategic choices. Sound effects are good and while there's not much music in the dungeons what's available in battle and overworld maps isn't bad at all. The problem with the game is the speed of battle is so slow sometimes especially in the first half. The animations and sound effects seem to take forever at times and until they're done you can't do anything or input other character commands while the current character is doing their attack or spell. Later in the game, a card that lets you spell attack all enemies does help to speed things up some (Big Bang and Black Hole are your friends in this aspect), but still it feels monotonous. You can potentially avoid enemies as in games like Chrono Trigger and potentially run away in battle which I often did towards the end of the game because I wanted to finish it already. The other major issue is the dungeons are mainly flipping switches to open doors to flip more switches to open more doors or make ledges. That's about it. Then you get a key item and then you have to leave the area manually in almost all cases. An option to teleport out after you got the key item isn't even offered and would've been nice to have. Again it's a decent game and worth the 99 cents I got it for on a sale, but I don't think I'll be replaying it anytime soon. I recommend you check out video clips of the game online before making a purchasing decision.
