Description
Deep Sky Derelicts Definitive Edition includes:

Deep Sky Derelicts is an original combination of turn-based strategy and RPG, enriched with tactical card combat and popular roguelike elements. Explore derelict alien ships, fight, loot and upgrade your gear, all in distinctive retro-futuristic comic book aesthetic style.

In a grim dystopian future, where mankind has scattered across the galaxy and the human society has split into two distinct classes, you are a poor stateless outcast forced to live off scraps from derelict alien stations and ships in the outer space, yet you dream of becoming a privileged citizen and living on the surface of a habitable planet, enjoying non-synthetic air, water and food. A fabled alien derelict ship somewhere within the Deep Sky sector of space is your voucher for a citizenship and a promise of cozy life on a hospitable planet.

Hire and control a squad of up to three mercenary characters and set on to explore derelict ships within your reach from the scavenger's base. Searching the derelicts for loot and clues, you come across many friendly inhabitants and traders, but more often – various enemies. Challenge and defeat them in tactical turn-based fights, where randomly-drawn cards form your changing arsenal of combat actions, gain experience for yourself and your crew, loot dead bodies, resupply and upgrade once back at your base. The scavenger's home ship gives you the opportunity to heal and level-up your mercenaries, recruit new ones, equip them, upgrade their gear or recharge energy for life support during missions.

Deep Sky Derelicts: New Prospects, the first expansion to Deep Sky Derelicts, introduces a number of remarkable upgrades and new features, opening up exciting new prospects for the scavengers roaming the DSD world.

Station Life is the second expansion to Deep Sky Derelicts that, as its name suggests, focuses on turning the station, your scavenger home and safe haven, into a livelier and more varied place to be, more useful and versatile hub of scavenging operations, and a more compelling experience overall.

Kind of interesting

Disclaimer: I own this game on Steam. This game is an interesting mix of cool, not-so-coll and complete spiteful design. Art wise that game is very engaging. The drawings are very well done and they conceive the atmosphere of a dark, dirty and bleak future. Thumb up. Keep in mind that there are not animations. Everything is static image, even during actions sequences. Sound wise is not so cool or nothign you will remember. The UI is workable. Nothing exceptional or particualrly bad. Now, game itself: essentially is a sci-fi deck-build exploration game that, due to some weird choices, cripple the exploratrion part and self-undermine the deck building aspects. 1. You consume energy for moving and fighting and produce money. To recharge energy you need money. You can easily spot a cyclic dependency here that can easily put you in an unwinneable situation. And it will happen a few times the first games. 2. Limited energy will cripple your ability or explore the derelicts. This means that you need to rush and complete your objective before your run out of the magic juice. This, of course, translate in bareer to how much you can explore. 3. Encounters in a derelict are random. So it could happen you spend a lot of energy without earning enough money to go back to the space station and replenish your reserves. This means that, with a bit of unluck, you are thrown in an unwinnable position. 4. The deck building aspect is interesting and the cards looks cool... until you realise they are not. Cards represent various equipment you can assign to various parts of your suite. This is nice and cool but some cards are better then others. You will also find a lot of duplicates. what does it mean? It litterally translate in building your deck with as much duplicates as possible of the best cards you can get, undermining the deck building aspect. Who cares if I have 200 different cards if I fill my dack with just an handful. Have fun!

Good roguelite w/stability issues, tips

I've finished the game once in Campaign mode, playing on Ubuntu 16.04, and overall I like the game a lot. I'll start with the negatives to get them out of the way. The game crashes relatively often, during my first campaign it tended to crash to desktop every couple of hours and now during my second it has picked up an annoying habit of replacing those crashes with freezing and requiring a complete reboot of my laptop. If you're easily annoyed or insist on hard-core ironman mode, bear that in mind! I am less analytical of the pros: - Captures nicely exploring the unknown - The challenge starts easy enough, though this might depend on your crew choices - Acquiring gear is fulfilling, as it should be in a good roguelite - I personally like the music and graphical style - It captured my attention immediately and kept it until first playthrough, which to me is always a sign of a good game As for the tips: 1. Save. The game has stability issues, so saving is imperative to avoid frustration! 2. Generators are a good investment, even more so than batteries as they help on return trips. 3. Around Derelict level 5 or so of the campaign, the challenge rises sharply. You can return to old derelicts to grind levels and gear&money for crafting! 4. Eventually, you want LESS cards from your gear. 4-5 good cards are far better than 12 cards with 3 great, 2 good, 3 decent and 4 poor, for example. You can adjust your Occupation skill cards separately, but not your gear. With optimized cards, an encounter that was previously 100% fatal can turn into victory! 5. By Derelict level 5, Evasion starts overpowering HP, Armor and Shields. Not getting hit in the first place is the best defense! 6. Running away is NOT a shame if you think you encountered more than you can deal with. Have fun, and patience with any instabilities you might encounter! ^-^

Masterpiece: low-story turn-based gaming

Fun, relaxed, engaging First let me say: This is a snappy, punchy, fast-paced yet turn-based rogue-lite. If you want pages and pages of text, or hand-holding quests of dullness this might not be for you. I'm not a big 'time-waster' fan. I like games I can jump into and play. I also don't usually like deck building games, but this game pulls it off. Weapons and tools have cards, and combat is based around opportunity to use the weapons and tools you've equipped your derelict scavenging, dystopian sci-fi mob. The atmosphere is great, the artwork phenomenal. This is what drives the game's environment, as opposed to reams of text. The story is light, and dialogue is snappy and fun, without dragging on. I no longer have the time or inclination to read through the life story of every beggar of riverwood, or really care too much about finding the sacred dagger of indigar, so this game was a refreshing take for me. It rests on having solid, engaging mechanics, with the card-drawing system adding a touch of adaptability, to prevent the usual formulaic approaches in turn-based games. You can nudge the deck in your favour, set-up skills and tools to favour your play style, but there is that outside chance you'll find yourself having to be resourceful and adapt to unexpected opportunities and outcomes. One thing to mention from other reviews: Energy is a resource for exploring, but you can stock up on So yes, this game, unlike many others, can be unforgiving if you neglect certain aspects. And thank the devs for that! Most games I play I end up with bundles of superfluous power-ups/potions/spells - in this you can focus on expanding energy reserves anyway to offset the risk, but be sure to make sure you save enough to make your way back to the spaceship. It helps actually add to the vibe of being a deep-sea diver, but, in space (hence Deep Sky Derelicts, I guess?) Overall this is a fantastic game and helps bridge the gap, stopping turn-based meaning time-wasting

Darkest Dungeon in space

This game is ofc simillar to Darkest Dungeon but I like it better. First of all party of 3 is just perfect number not too much not too little. I felt a bit overwhelmed in DD by 4 members and all the customatization. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of customatization here and most of the time you will spend in inventory. Game has some bugs and crashed on me once. Still the atmospere and overall art style is nice. I got base game for free and bought the other expansions on disscount. If you are fan of RPG, deep space exploration, scavenging you will like this one for sure.

A fun romp

A game that does what it does well, without trying to do too much. The story is simple, the art is really nice, the gameplay is engaging and fun.
