UI & Tutorial - Crossroads Inn is not an easy game, especially for beginners. This is why devs are now working on an extensive help system that includes better UI, loads of tips available through loading screens, innkeeper journal, and in-game tutorials.
Crossroads Inn is a real-time management sim with RPG elements. The game consists of two unique modes offering totally different experiences.
In Sandbox mode gamers will focus solely on managing their business and economy – to build their very own tavern, hire and oversee staff, manage the supply chains and create new dish recipes. In Campaign mode, micromanagement is just a prelude to a rich story as the kingdom is in turmoil and a shift of power is expected. Your Inn will soon attract the attention of important political and military figures, who are desperately trying to hold on to the reins of power. Gamers will become part of a large-scale drama full of political intrigues, vivid characters, treacherous NPC’s and dangerous quests inspired by RPG games – You will even have a damsel in distress to save!

I heard about the bugs, yet payed for it anyway because I love the concept. I have well over the recommended system requirements, but cannot even play this game long enough with this lag to see the bugs. Definitely do not get this for Mac. This game should definitely be considered, even in May, early access. I'll let them keep the 20 bucks. Buy a sandwich, then fix this game!
Graphics are OK, stability is fine. The UI has some illogical quirks, but that is not the reason for 2 stars.
The reason is the broken AI: Servers don't serve customers, even if you set "serve customers" as maximum priority and every thing else off. Instead three or four servers run to the same spot of dirt to clean when one would be enough. The rest of the staff is just a tiny but better but not much: The cooks don't cook, instead they was the dishes, even if the priority says "off". Those who collect gossip sometimes wander far out of your inn and return several minutes later to take a break, then smoke, then do ONE tiny thing and smoke again.
80% of the customers come in, complain that they are not served, hungry and thirsty, and leave because no one served them anything.
Other things: You HAVE to give your staff a thumbs up about every eight hour. Which you cannot do in bulk - the fastest way is to open the staff list an thumbs up one after the other, a useless clicking job. Else they get very very unhappy.
The title says all you need to know. The game is fun, simply put. The main issue is the random CTD after about an hour of play - for this style of game, that's nothing. The game runs smooth, the controls are mostly alright, and it's fun. Fix the CTD, perhaps put a game mode where it's a bit more relaxed and not as rushed to get everything finished, and the game would good.
After a pretty energetic start now I have literally been sitting for three hours and watching my tavern's attempts to save 20 thousand gold to pay off a loan. On the one hand, it describes the reality of the tavern owner quite clearly. On the other hand, I've heard that video games should be fun.
This game needs more attention by both the developers AND us consumers because there is a tone of potential and the groundwork foundations of an incredibly fun and innovative simulation game is right here but isn't quite there yet. A lot of reviews are mentioning bugs and crashes as being the main reasons to not recommend, on the other hand, positive reviews tend to brush off these issues and look at what the game itself offers with a caveat. I'm in the latter but I'd like to quickly explain why this game needs more love.
The negatives, first. There are lots of bugs, most of them cosmetic (UI, animations) and the rest from NPC path finding and general derpy AI. I've beaten the (rather good) campaign taking me roughly 10 hours and I did not suffer a single crash, although I did experience plenty of aforementioned bugs. Next, there aren't many quality of life features, such as having the names of recipes appear on mouse-hover, or having to click through menu after sub-menu after sub-menu just to fire an employee and to see what their current action is. Also, to track recipes you've learned, you need to individually click them and individually manually order them. This process should be either automatic or just one whole click. Finally, the graphics aren't good, the cel-shade look is too cartoony and the textures are blurry and underutilised.
Having said that, this game can be INCREDIBLE fun and the depth of this simulation is the sweet spot of gradually introducing new concepts the more you play as to not overwhelm you. Designing and building rooms is not only fun but usually benefits your tavern in ways such as pleasing certain patrons. There're a variety of objects to place, of different tiers, freely and to make deliveries faster. NPCs each have their own stats and traits so it's fun to study them. The story was surprisingly well done with nice world building and lore. The dynamic lighting looks great also.
Overall, great game, but needs more bug fixing...
