Tarm: Damn you! Now I have to try to find a video of them on the net.

hercufles: try spoony expiremnt he had reviewed privateer 2 and he talkes about those nasty fmv ones. He even told that he didnt understand there were so many great actors in a crappy game like that. Like john hurt. Btw off topic I like your avatar pic elite :) what a great memories i have from its sequal frontier elite, elite 1 i sucked at because i couldnt get used to the controls.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look at it.

Elite is probably the most wondrous game I've ever played. I've yet to find a game that's even close to creating the illusion of "being there", here's a galaxy for you to explore at wish and simply being so fun. If you ask me it's perfectly balanced. It's hard yes but the rewards it give you when you master something is more than worth it.
Only played Elite and Elite +. First on the C64 for years and after that on the Amiga 500 for another couple years. :) Didn't like the Newtonian physics in the sequels.
So being a massive fan of Elite I also found that the logo makes a fine Avatar. :)

Privateer is also one of my absolute favourites but it lacks the vastness of Elite.

It used to have a 2 fanboy camp the privateer and the elite 1, did you get the controls to work back then? I was really terrible with that lol

I guess I belonged to both fanboy camps. :)
The controls wasn't that hard once I realised trying to move in both axis was almost impossible. So I only moved in one axis at a time. For example pressed the right arrow which made the ship turn like going around the clock and when the spot I was aiming at was in the right position on the clock I pressed the up or down arrow to get it in the crosshairs.

its too bad elite isnt availeble legaly i hope it comes on gog as well but for that time we have privateer. Im a bit cynical if it comes to privateer i remember when i bought the game i was thinking it was 1 with beter graphics because i never could play 1, I only could read reviews about it and i remember that it was a game on itself to get that bugger running, It had its own will sometimes it run but crashes later on it it didnt run at all, the trading system was bad as well you hired chargo ships to carry your junk. part 2 almost ruined my perspective of privateer i tought 1 could be bad as 2 but when i played 1 here on gog i understand that luckely it isnt true that part 2 is forgetteble and 1 is still the best.

Yeah. Elite on GOG would be pure awesomeness. :)

Privateer 1 sure isn't perfect but still one of the best in it's genre so I'm happy with it.
I remember having some trouble with creating a boot disk for it but not that much. By the time I had to get it to run I was pretty jaded with juggling memory usage.

welll lets say the perfect game isnt invented yet but yeah for this time it was a very good game and i miss that space exploration and sandbox idea, i heard there is an elite 4 coming but i haven seen any footage or screenshots, i only see it on some game sites where you can preorder it.
Did anyone mentioned Starlancer and Freelancer?
They were not that bad either... :)
Privateer 2 was a good but strange game and I would really love to have it on GOG.

Privateer 1 is just so much better.

Hehehe! When I told "Hey, this guy played in Privateer 2" then pals looked at me like "What?!"... ;-)

Try to find the best commercial ever made: The Hire. Few years ago BMW USA gave it on DVD for free (I payed just for delivery).

I got a few of those looks when I blurted the same thing out watching Sin City... especially when I actually called him Lev Arris before remembering his actual name.

I just got Freelancer. Looks ok so far, slightly smoother controls. ;)
Freelancer was the first flight sim that convinced me that I didn't necessarily need a joystick any more. I hated the idea of a mouse-only space sim at first but it works surprisingly well. X3 takes the idea further and works beautifully with a mouse.

Although the purists will always insist a mouse is absolutely necessarily, I think part of the reason Freelancer was so successful is that it was a hell of a lot easier to get flying and did not require players to go purchase joysticks if they didn't already have them.
Never played it, but would like to see it on GOG
