I'm just curious. Does the GOG version here have the random crashing to the desktop like the original copy does? Or has this been fixed with an unofficial patch? I'm sure anyone with the original copy knows what I'm talking about. At the end of the battle, when it would take you to the scoreboard it would just simply crash and close out to the desktop. Sometimes even right in the middle of battle. I always loved the WBC series, I just hated the constant crashing. Thanks for any input on this.

Two things.
First, I have not experienced this crash you speak of personally, or at least I have no memory of it. Of course I have not played in about 8-9 months though.
Second, GOG patches to the official release patch level but I think you should be able to apply any third party patches you like without troubles, or at least I have not had t\troubles with GOG games and user made patches, but I do not know about WBC as I have a disk version of the game.
I have the disk version as well. But those crashes have condemned me from playing it as much as I'd like (I don't remember WBC3 crashing as often as WBC2 however). I'm surprised nobody else knows what I'm talking about. I've not tried installing any of them onto Vista Ultimate 64. But running them on XP and ME always gave me random crashing. Anyhow I figured I'd check to see if anyone with the same experience (in the crashes) could verify with an answer of it being fixed to make this game worth a second purchase. Thanks again though.

Had crashes with original. Never on a GOG version, although I'm also running a completely different computer, so maybe it's hardware-related - but not a single crash.
I had problems with my original copy of WB3 and now I have the crashes with the GOG version. I don't think it likes my beastly computer....
mine crashes religously whilst trying to start any map. ive deleted reinstall delete reinstall no worky and i like it better than wbc3
This still seems to be an issue. I seem to get consistent crashing when playing a 2v2 or 3v3 multiplier game on LAN with "Prince" or "Warlord" AI as our enemies. Not sure why it happens, but it seems to occur right in the middle of the game.
Running on windows 7 64bit. Played around with the compatibility and it seems most stable with XP service pack 3. But it still occasionally crashes when trying to cast a spell.
I've just downloaded it from GOG and literally cannot go through 1st campaign level (some island) because the game would crash. I run Win7, the game in compatibility with xp sp3 and as administrator. Any ideas?

Edit:
After a few more tries (still the level not completed) the problem is when trying to summon a zombie. I don't know if it would be the same with other spells but if yes than this is a complete disaster of a game.

Edit 2:

OK it is a disaster. Even opening a spell book can cause it to crash.

Same here, Win7 x64 Ultimate, everything updated (Windows, vga drivers, DirectX), crashes upon opening spell book. Compatibility mode not helping.

Anyone try contacting gog for a refund since it clearly doesn't work in Win 7?

Disabling Desktop compositing helped a lot for me.
I also set compatibility mode to Windows 2000, disabled scaling on high resolutions and running in administrator mode.

I just tested this, and so far it seems to work with the spellbook. I'll come back with an update

Hmm it did not help in the long run :/

This thread is definitely not solved. Although changing the compatibility and disabling desktop compositing helped, but it still crashes when I open the spellbook. Instead of "all the time" now its seems to be just "most".
