I'm just curious. Does the GOG version here have the random crashing to the desktop like the original copy does? Or has this been fixed with an unofficial patch? I'm sure anyone with the original copy knows what I'm talking about. At the end of the battle, when it would take you to the scoreboard it would just simply crash and close out to the desktop. Sometimes even right in the middle of battle. I always loved the WBC series, I just hated the constant crashing. Thanks for any input on this.

Same here. Game crashes EVERY time.
Yes i have the same problem too, i just purchased the game today and my crashes start just before the battle starts when choosing your units.

I'm astonished none of the staff for this website have looked into this problem.
We have paid money for this game so we deserve an explanation.

Have you contacted support about it, or just posted on a "Solved" forum question?
Today, 6/6/2015, I added a post here before seeing that this thread was tagged as "Solved"

Removed my question, but could not remove the post.

I will post my question in a new thread.

What kind of stupid solution is this suppose to be? Hardware based my ass, do i now need to buy a special PC just for this game or what?

Judging by the things hibitdrifter has tried above (I'm assuming all on the same hardware platform, though could be wrong), it probably is some sort of issue with certain hardware and this game not playing well together. It would be nice to have that narrowed down a bit more, but clearly it works for most people, and doesn't for others, with the same software. For example, my Win7 x64 Ultimate crashes "approximately never". Once in a blue moon I get the "can't heal" bug, which is solved by restarting the PC (quite an odd fix, that). I play all races, all classes.

So. It would be nice to find out what hardware doesn't get along with this game, but I suspect it's more than one item, and a fairly small set of users with this problem, making it pretty damned difficult to track down. I think GOG can be forgiven for not being able to solve this, and making do with refunding those few who can't play the game. Fixing other companies' games isn't their main business, after all.
Haven't been on this board for awhile. Here are the HW setups remember:

Intel Core2 2.5ghz dual Shuttle Box - at one point with Linux 32Bit & 8400nVidia card - later WinXP & 5450/6670 AMD cards
Apple Mac Mini WinXP & built-in 9400 nvidia card on one drive - can't remember if I tested the OSX side
Intel Core2 Q9550, ASUS Mobo, 8g DDR2 1066, 9800+nVidia, Ubuntu 10.04
AMD 4100, Unknown Mobo (Gigabyte, I think), 8g DDR3 1333, nVidia 240GT

The above are no longer available

Current Machines I can test:
Intel i7-3770k, Gigabyte Mobo, 32g DDR3 1600, 760 nVidia, Win7
Intel i7-4790k, Gigabyte Mobo, 8g DDR3 1600, 8400 nVidia, Kubuntu 14.04
AMD 6300, Unknown Mobo (ASRock, I think), 8g DDR3 1600, nVidia 250GTS

Also have an 2009 MacBook w/9400 & 9600 nvidia cards in it. Has both OSX 10.10 & Win7 on different drives
Also a AMD Turion Laptop with 9100 nVidia graphics - it crashed all the time & that was HW

Current update seems to cover most of the crashes. It only crashes occasionally. More commonly during extensive, drawn out, games.

Let me know any HW format you'd like and I'll see what I can do

I am not exactly computer savvy, but mine seems to crash after I won a match, and then says my hero lost it....
I am using Windows 8,1 on a Dell laptop is all I know except ir is frustrating to make it through a battle, Win, and then be forced to cntl - alt - delete and reboot just to find that it did NOT give you credit for completing it!!

I can confirm this behavior. Just completed a mission, got to the Level Up screen and the game froze. After restarting the game, my xp and items were all reset to what I had BEFORE the last match. 30 minutes of my time gone.

Uninstalled it.
