I just bought this game and it played no problem under Windows 10 on my PC. Intro video played, started and completed a few campaign missions with no issues. I did NOT experience the crashing at the "Prepare for Battle" screen as experienced by others. I don't have Google Drive or Creative Cloud running but I do have OneDrive running. My PC specs are as follows:

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (v1511 - fully updated as of 30 July 2016)
Processor: Intel i7-875K overclocked to 3.85GHz
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 390 (Asus STRIX-R9390-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING)
Graphics Driver: AMD Radeon Crimson v16.3.2 with GPU Scaling turned ON
Monitor: Dell U3415W
Screen Resolution: 3440 x 1440
Just updated to AMD Radeon Crimson v16.7.3 and all is still working well.
My game keeps crashing at the prepare for battle screen.

I've tried pretty much everything listed in the email thread but I haven't had any luck.

- DIsabled all of the settings in the game itself and it still crashes.
- Made sure that Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud etc aren't running
- Ran in several compatibility modes including 98/ME
- Ran it in windowed mode by adding -window to the shortcut target
- Reinstalled several times and also installed on a 'clean boot'
- Played with the settings to for fixed 640x480 resolution
- Checked that the locale is set to English

Can anyone let me know if I've missed anything out please? I can't think of what else I need to try out :\

Thanks,
Mike

It seems that the game does not like any background programs to run. Try switching off every program that you have running and that is non-essential. Check with task manager what is running. If you tried that already (it is not clear to me that this is what you did in point 2), then I have no idea.
Win7: that the game does not like any background programs to run. switching off programs.

Found an easy way to figure out what program is currently causing an issue (since it seems to be different for different people).

When the game freezes, don't kill the process. Open the task manager and go to the "Details" tab. Scroll down to WHSHR.EXE, right click it and click "Analyze wait chain". A window will pop up with the culprit that's causing the game to stop. I'm on Windows 10, and I don't remember if older task managers have the same option, but this is what I did.

Funny thing, the game is still alive at this point, and brings up the battlefield immediately if you stop the other process instead.

I was able to get the game to run 100%, after I had the same issue as you. I found that if I disabled the programs lightkeeper and lighting service in the MSconfig it worked for me. I'm running windows 10 64.
Did not have to disable everything and install just disable those two files and restart the computer when prompted. Also didn't have to run a compatibility configuration either.
Thanks to other posters* here for pushing me to check the msconfig area.

*Unsung heroes of the internet.
I still have the "Prepare for battle screen"-Crash.

My system:
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 19042) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
Language: German (Regional Setting: German)
System Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd
System Model: MS-7B86
BIOS: H.60 (type: UEFI)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor (16 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

If I try the solution from Taaac with the "analyze wait chain" it shows me nothing! No programm interferes.
Tried Windows 98 and Windows XP compatibility mode. Nothing goes. Adobe cloud isn't installed. Stopped google drive. But thats not the solution for me. Thats very sad. Was hoping GoG would patch this game to run properly without worrying about running background programs.

Same problem for me.
Disable GFE forced fork aka the dreaded NVcontainer
Now its running! I deinstalled NVIDIA Experience but that alone didn't solve my problem. I stopped the following Services:
Adobe Update Service
Razor Game Manager
Razor Synapse Service
Epson Scanner Service

Don't know what really did the trick, but now I can play the battles in Warhammer Horned Rat. Thanks for giving the ideas!
I managed to make it work with a program called asus gpu tweak II which disables a couple of windows services in gaming boost mode.

This game has a lot of issues with many programs running in the background so basically closing non-essential programs could do the trick.
