Ditto. How long should we give GOG time to fix this before we refund it?
Yep, same here. Waiting for a quick fix or refund.

Windows 8.1 64bit.

Mine just says that It can't find every single file, when I try to open it...
I'm also stuck on the "prepare for battle" screen. I have the same problem with my original copy, so
it doesn't look like gog changed anything within the game.
Maybe you guys should write reviews to bring this joke of a release down from its current 4.5 stars? All those 5 star reviews coming out on the very day of the release - very trustworthy.

All those 1 star reviews coming out on the very day of the release - even more trustworthy.
As for the crash - I also have this problem. Interestingly, it only appeared when I ran the game for the third time - before that I didn't have any problems.

Buying a game and finding out it doesn't work doesn't take a long time, does it?

Finding out a game is excellent required at least a full play-through. Sure, those 5-star guys have played the game before, but that's not good enough. At least not for me. I betcha, some of those guys hadn't even downloaded the game, when writing the review.
Try to run the game in win98 compatibility mode. It solved the problem for me (Win7).

I never said they were trustworthy. I just said 1-star reviews from frustrated customers, dealing only with the bugs, and not with the game itself, are even less trustworthy than that. Especially when the bugs have been removed, but the reviews linger on and contribute to the overall rating.
Instead of thinking about a refund, I started tinkering with compatibility modes, and it helped. I hope it'll work for others, too.

That certainly is a healthy approach. I was, however, expecting that people would have their reviews removed or edited once a bugfix has taken place to their satisfaction. Should they remain dissatisfied, they are entitled to giving negative reviews.
