Santtu: Of course you would say that.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to ask on your opinion about the patches that come with the GOG version?

The GOG release comes with the basic version of the Unofficial Patch pre-installed (the first one on his list), with only bug fixes, no tweaks and hardly any restored content included.

Magmarock:
And you were answered by the creator of that patch himself. :D
And as wesp5 said - it's mostly bug fixes, so it's pure gold in my opinion. I can understand, that some people don't want fan restored stuff, but the 'bare' patch is literally a must here - otherwise, you wouldn't be possible to complete the game, at least on some sides. And the topic isn't that old, thatnks to GOGlites. ;)

Wait, so the patch that comes with the games doesn't allow you to finish it.

No. The game without any patches won't even run on modern computers and would be hard to finish. The GOG version is fine due to the included patch!

We're talking about the unofficial patch that comes with the GOG version right?

Yes, thanks to that patch the game is very much playable and finishable.

finishable lol I like this word, they should add it to kickstarter. So what about the mods listed in the OP they're still owrthing using with the GOG version?

Magmarock:
That's more a question to wesp5, but... to my knowledge there shouldn't be really any problems with other mods. I myself usually use plus concent from the 'basic' patch by wesp, nothing more.

Except for The Final Nights, all mayor mods install into their own subfolder and can be used in parrallel if started from their own shortcut. They are all based on some older version of the UP anyway...

Ah right, but what do you think of the UP that's part of the GOG version?
avatar
wesp5: Yes, but it's the basic version of the patch. You can install 9.5 plus or 9.4 plus right over it and some things will change.
I'm trying to install 9.6 now, and I noticed that Patch+ is saying:

"No new audio"
"No new particles"
...
and so on. And they are all unchecked. When checking them, size of the patch increases. It's confusing, is checking the checkbox enables or disables those parts of the patch? If it enables then, why are they called "No XYZ"?

It's downgrading the plus version a bit towards the basic one by removing new content that was not in the game files, for hardcore purists. The file size increases as the basic versions are copied over again...

I see, thanks!
