I recommend you to grab this:

Patch 227.H, The latest patch from the Unreal community for Unreal.

Here's a texture database for those who want to give a second birth to this wonderful game...

Don't forget that these patches are for Unreal Gold, and not for Unreal Tournament.

UPDATE! A good fellow named Soilbreeder PM'd me to tell me the patch 227.H was out. Praised be PM system!

Thanks man!

DukeNico: I'll edit this section later (I'm at school atm :P), but for now I recommend you to grab this:
Patch 227.e, The latest patch from the Unreal community for Unreal. Be careful though, the expansion pack "Return to Na Pali" will not work with it.

I downloaded the texture packs from your link but in their instructions they say that OpenGL support is required (to enable the S3TC option) and this GOG version does not appear to include OpenGL. Is there any way I can get them to work? Just putting the files in the textures directory causes them to appear corrupt when you are doing the main flyby. I have gone to the console and typed preferences but all the render options available there do not correct the corrupted textures (most textures are fine but not all).
Edit: Installing the 227.e community patch is not optimal as I would lose the expansion pack which I do not want to lose!

I suggest you to play through the first Unreal with the 227.e community patch, then you take care of NaPali separately with another installation. The 227.e patch is just OVERNEEDED, so finish Unreal first, then see Unreal : Return to NaPali next :)
Otherwise you can grab the OMP-UGOLD (UGOLD, don't grab the other versions!), it's a compilation of different renderers.
Then you can install the Textures!

Thank you! OMP works like a charm and additionally it lets me choose my monitors native resolution along with all the high-resy goodness! Solved!
After installing the GOG version of Unreal Tournament GOTY I cannot install the 227.e patch. It keeps looking for an installed version. I guess I don't really need it since the game works fine. I was wondering if I could get better graphics with the patch.

The patches are for Unreal, not Unreal Tournament. I should have say it :P - there, topic edited :)

Oh I see. My mistake. Thanks.
What does patch 227.e do?

besse: What does patch 227.e do?

That's a big patch. On the link I've provided there's another link called Release Notes:227ReleaseNotes.pdf, check this out!
Awesome thanks.
My Unreal 2 game keeps crashing. I'm trying to install an Unreal 2 patch and it can't find the game. Any ideas as to how I can rectify this? Thanks.

If you want to play both Unreal and Return To NaPali (ie without the 227.e patch), grab the OMP-UGOLD (UGOLD, don't grab the other Unreals versions!), it's a compilation of different renderers made to work with modern hardware. I recommend you to use it with Return To NaPali only, for the 227.e patch is highly recommended.
Don't forget that these patches are for Unreal Gold, and not for Unreal Tournament.

Thank You. :-)
How to get 227e installer to recognize GOG version? I only see an installer .exe on the oldunreal website and whenever I point it at the Unreal Gold folder created by the GOG installer oldunreal setup says it needs version 200 which GOG is not. Is there any way I can just extract the files from 227e and copy them over?
Ok, figured it out. The oldunreal installer was failing because of the space in the "unreal gold" folder name. Removing the space for the install fixed the issue.

I have a major problem here. After installing the patch DukeNico provided, the menu had extreme stuttering. Every time I switch to other option in the menus, the whole game freezes for a second or two.
My second problem is that either I don't know how, or it is impossibility to change the speed of game. It seems as if the game speed is locked at 200% or more, which makes it virtually unplayable for me.
