AAM1: Owwwww, that's so saddie. :P

I wonder what DXWND's "windowed mode" would change. Although I don't know how to set it.
Hello, people of 2018, I am from year 2020 and here to tell you that don't come here. Also, I need to tell you that the DXWND fixed it for me! I just followed this:

https://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45482

There's a lot of fiddling around, and I have windows 7, and the original CD of TA, so I had to change some things in the Modify/Target -screen.

SuperVampireKiller: Windows 7, having that issue with TotalA Commander pack where the colors get all crazy and overblown and you can't actually tell what anything is. I install the community patch, it works fine... in windowed mode. In fullscreen (Which let's be honest if you play RTSs in windowed mode and you don't have a giant monitor you're a gigantic prick) the game crashes and tells me to check my DirectX environment. I install a hotfix patch from the TotalA forums and it works in fullscreen, but brings me back to my issue with the ridiculous colors. I tried 256 color mode, Windows 7, XP Service Pack 2, and XP Service Pack 3 Compatibility modes, admin, and yes, my graphics card drivers are up to date. I literally just rage uninstalled the game, but if someone wants to help me troubleshoot, I'll reinstall.

(See Attached Image) This shit, to be exact.
Did you try this ?

Pouyou-pouyou: Did you try this ?
I tried it but it makes the menus and cutscenes extremely laggy and launching any match gives me a CTD. This is frustrating because it was working on my PC a few months ago and just suddenly started giving me this issue when I didn't make ANY changes to the game.

I've had this problem. The ONLY solution is to use Nvidia's older drivers. I was using 390.65 on 64-bit windows 7 and it worked fine. Colours were as they should have been and everything.
So It's something to do with Nvidia's drivers. Or the newer ones anyway.

My problem now is I switched my old 4gb nvidia card to a new Asus 6gb 2060 RTX EVO. So my older drivers no longer work. At least not with the new graphics card anyway. since they are incompatible.

This my well help others out there trying to figure this all out. Since searching the internet gave me no useful results.
Just an update for those who experience major lag with the suggestion Pouyou-pouyou made: I contacted GOG support to see if they had any suggestions on how to fix this issue. While it's not ideal, I've been able to get the game running in windowed mode by adding "-d" (minus the quotation marks) to the launch arguments. Fortunately, it's ALMOST borderless windowed in that the game runs in fullscreen except that the task bar shows up at the bottom.

Again, not ideal but it is a workaround for now.
I got it working fairly well using this method : https://www.gog.com/forum/total_annihilation_series/problem_with_greyed_blurry_screen/post6
