Right after loading the game, I can interact with a camp site without issues, but after a few minutes of gameplay, it crashes consistently when I enter a campsite.
I already tried switching graphics settings, refresh rate, dx version, etc.

Playing on Linux (Bazzite, using Lutris)

My configuration:
cpu: amd 7800x3d
gpu: rx 7900xtx
memory: 32GB
resolution: 2560x1440
Same here, using camps is a constant danger to crash the game and happens using DX11 and DX12. I'm using Arch, so i think this is related directly to the game or the prerequisites or something in the files, it has nothing to do with Proton, because the Steam version doesn't have this problem using the same system, same Proton version and everything is the same, just the game it seems to be different.
Same problem here.

My system:

cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6-Core Processor
RAM: 15,6 GiB of RAM
gpu: AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT
Kernel: 6.12.48-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
X11
resolution: 3440x1440

I play with an average of 60-80 fps, sometimes as high as 120 fps.
Oh thank God. I thought I was the only one with this problem.

It seems to crash when going to a campsite after playing around 20-30 minutes (maybe less or more).

Start new game and get to very first campsite. Game says to upgrade the bow weapon.

Crashes when:
The campsite menu appears, or, when I go to upgrade the bow. Sometimes I can get through the campsite menu and exit to play the game where it immediately crashes. Launch game, load save, run around for a bit, go back to campsite and boom. Back to desktop.

Also, after playing for a little bit, if I press ESC and select Exit to Menu the game crashes to desktop instead of taking me to the title screen. (there is no exit to desktop option)

Bazzite 42 (KDE Plasma version)
Heroic Games Launcher (logged into GOG)

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3D
Asrock B550 Extreme 4
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT
Ram: 32GB (2x16GB)
2560x1440

Edit: Doesn't matter if I use the default GE-Proton Latest or Wine-GE Latest. It also doesn't matter if I use the Flatpak of Heroic (installed through Bazaar) or manually download the .rpm version from Github and use the terminal to install it.

I might have found the source of the issue. I am using comet (for registering achievements) and it looks like it is the cause. I forgot I had it running since it never caused problems until now, but after killing it, I just played for 2+ hours with no crashes. I used campsites at every opportunity (skills, inventory & weapon upgrades and fast travel) without problems.
(I am not using heroic, but I think it uses comet in its gog integration.)

It seems the game tries to do something online when in a campsite, and it disagrees pretty vehemently with whatever it is receiving back. Going "offline" prevents this.
Somebody posted a similar issue on reddit, but their solution is to completely disable the internet connection which seems overkill (old.reddit.com/r/gog/comments/1nrwglt/solution_rise_of_the_tomb_raider_crash_at_campfire/)

So... what it would be the solution using Heroic? or what it would be a global solution?

On Heroic:

Settings -> Advanced -> Experimental Features: Uncheck "Comet Support"

I noticed the same bug on my system (Ryzen 7945HX, RTX 4070 Laptop, Manjaro KDE).

Wouldn't disabling comet also disable achievements and cloud saves?

Probably. I don't use those features, though. So now I'm a happy gamer. :)

I had a feeling that was the case: the game is trying to communicate online for something when going to a campsite. The Comet thing in Heroic makes sense as being the problem. I'll have to try the game later with it disabled.

Looking at my Gog profile I have gotten some achievements for Rise.

But I just remembered that cloud saves in Heroic aren't working for this game. I've have the game synced for cloud saves and forced it to upload to the Gog cloud, then reinstalled the game (multiple times) trying to figure out why it crashes and forced it to download cloud saves only to find when I launch the game I only have the option to start a new game. Through testing, cloud saves are working for other Gog games I have, that I played on Windows 11. I'm able to download the saves and continue where I left off. So far it seems to be Rise that doesn't work. (haven't tried Shadow of the Tomb Raider yet since I wanted to play them in order. I've had Tomb Raider 2013 from Gog and completed it quite a while ago.)

So, I played again tonight for an hour or so. I had a crash in a campsite, but from what I have found it is known to crash the game (geothermal valley farmstead camp; I found posts online from 2016 up to 2020 about that one). Others worked without issue.

Does that mean that turning comet support off worked for you?

For achievements, yes. However, it seems the game "remembers" the achievements you get offline. So if you care about achievements tracking, you can:
- play offline
- when done, quit the game
- start comet, and restart the game
It should register the achievements you got. I got 5 like that. I don't know if it will work for all achievements though. And I'm not sure I care enough about achievements to do that dance every time :)

Regarding cloud saves, no idea. I don't use them. But I don't see a mention of cloud saves on the comet github page, so if Heroic provides support for cloud saves, maybe it is provided by something else?
But thinking about it, maybe cloud saves are the culprit? It might make sense for the game to be trying to upload a save when you interact with a campsite.

For a proper fix, I don't know. Maybe pinging the Heroic devs ?
I would guess that GOG support will just tell us that it's not a supported way of running the game, though it could be worth trying there too. On the store page, they say that they removed the online functionality and added cloud save support, so maybe something is wrong there?

I mean, this is a problem with the game and it happens only in this game, so i think this should be something that GOG should fix, because the game it's not crashing because we are playing on Linux itself, it's because the game is expecting to do something online and it can´t be done.

Thank you! This fixed it for me (I didn't want that feature anyway and was surprised when Heroic was uploading my stats to gog before).

They actually do work, but Heroic detects the wrong path. You got to correct this manually. Heroic detects a path like

/PathToYourHeroicPrefixes/Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration/drive_c/users/username/AppData/Local/GOG.com/Galaxy/Applications/undefined/Storage/S hared/F iles

But the actual game progress (including saves) is stored in

/PathToYourHeroicPrefixes/Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration/drive_c/users/username/AppData/Local/GOG.com/Galaxy/Applications/58668848197088414/S torage/ Shared/Files

Just change that in the Cloud Saves settings, force a manual upload of your current game progress and then, it should be on GoG's cloud.
