Blinkin89: I asked 11bit Studios directly by messaging them on Facebook and this is the reply they gave me.
"Modding tools will be only available on steam. The mods themselves though will work also with games from other sources like Humble Bundle and etc."
Well, I guess it's good to know that 11bit Studios already gets enough money and does not want me to spend any of mine on their future games. Cheers for the update Blinkin89!
So, in other words, there will be no updates in the future.

Had someone any luck contacting GOG staff?

Yes, there will be -- it's just that apparently the modding tools will be a Steam exclusive. However, the last update took (if I remember correctly) a few months to show up here, so we might be in for a bit of a wait.

11 bit confirmed to me that only Steam would get the update to 2.0. So I know I will never spend my money on these devs anymore.
A shame because it's a nice game.

Screw GOG .... first and last buy on this platform

Why? You can't blame the platform for a decision made by a developer.
I think it's stupid to stop buying from GOG for something they can't influence.

Two different things:

- Main blame is indeed towards the developer/publisher, not GOG. One could also claim GOG has part of the blame and should make agreements with publishers where they are obliged to give the latest patches also to GOG version, but not sure if such agreements really are doable, and whether they'd work anyway. I mean, what would be the sanction for breaking the agreement? The game is pulled from GOG, that's all? I don't see how that would benefit me either.

- Having said that, that is still a valid reason for someone to choose to buy where the game is supported (better). Sad but true.

So besides the modding tools, what exactly the GOG version will be missing then? Some crucial gameplay fixes?

I recall there have been earlier instances too when the publisher has implied future updates etc. will come only to the Steam version, yet later they have appeared on the GOG version anyway, possibly after GOG has contacted them. If not, I guess one just needs to remember which publishers to boycott also with their future games when buying from GOG (and I'd personally probably boycott them elsewhere too for not supporting their GOG customers).

I'm sorry for GOG but why do i have to buy again a game on GOG when i've experienced this ?
Why should i buy again a game with the fear of not getting patches in the future like it has happened with This war of mine ?
Good points Timppu. It's kinda difficult.
Everyone has their own choices.

The reason why I wouldn't boycott GOG is because I have very good experiences with all the games and movies I bought here. I agree GOG could influence developers/publishers about keeping everything up-to-date but as you said that might be difficult to control.

Another reason why I won't boycott GOG is because I don't want to buy games with DRM. When developers/publishers decide to only update their DRM versions of games I shouldn't boycott my DRM-free platform and switch to the DRM enabled platform just to get the updates. That would go completely against my principles. Instead I will boycott the whole developer/publisher.

But again, this is my preference. I can completely understand that not everyone thinks the same, so it only applies when you agree. :)

Same. A game which is only updated by DRM is a scam on GOG store. There should have a deal about this in the contract between publisher and GOG, for their game becoming free here and the publisher reimburse the GOG customers as they sold a game to be not completed (as it is made completed by other means than drm-free).

The fact that 11bit is also a Polish game developer and that their previous company was actually purchased by CDProjekt might have something to do with it.

Not sure if the relations betweet 11bit and CDProjekt (and thus also GOG) are friendly or hostile.
That might explain the lack of comments on this thread by both parties ..

Here's hoping for a 2.0 and continued support for games on 2nd or 3rd class platforms like GOG
This is highly disappointing.
I asked on Steam and got the following answer regarding the next version for GOG (since they apparently fixed the morale penalty for stealing from bandits):

Woland 29 Mar @ 8:39am
@Funreaver the build is already in testing, so should be out this week.

So even if we don't get the workshop they have not completely abandoned GOG :)
