The coolest thing about wolf gear is that you need to be level 34 to wear the master crafted gear, and that means you need to complete the game first. Or be at the very end of it at the very least if you were grinding your leveling... It looks awesome though. lol. CDPR is a bunch of masochists.

yorktown1983: so basically what you guys are saying is, if you sold the gear at the beginning like all of us did not realizing you need it to craft upgrades, you cant get any of the diagrams until you go to kaer mohrn or whatever???

good thinking cdpr --- NOT.
No, your starting gear has nothing to do with it. The first level diagrams for the wolf gear is in Kaer Morhen.
OP has a point... that is pretty far into the game.

Still, the wolf school gear combines the best of the other ones, so maybe they did it that way on purpose.
i am lvl 23 and barely in skellige!! i played advancing the story slowly trying to do all the sidequests. so now i dont know do i advance the story so i can do more quests w/ wolf gear or not??

Don't advance as much as you can. This is the key to playing the game and feel satisfied afterwards. The game will make you want to rush, but you will have to resist it...
Or another option: is to completely ignore the sidequests and concentrate only on playing and completing the main story. And dive into monster hunting in relaxed style afterwards. Actually I think this is a better way of playing this game...
One really have to plan carefully how he is going to play this game in order not to be left dissatisfied after completing it.

I wouldn't say it makes you rush through more on the other side. For example I tend to jump from side quests to main story from time to time and when I get bored of them to some contracts or treasure hunt. Sometimes just wandering around and enjoying the beautiful world. So it does it's job by making you entertained all the time.

Still, the Kaer Mohren requirement for the wolf set is annoying, it's logical but unpractical.

zerebrush: ... me, too (ignore).

But: parts of the gear you are after can be found in the area of Kaer Muire. Been there, done it.

Again, ignore - please :)

EDIT: while ignoring me I like to point out that I do not have the quest, I simply found the things by roaming around on skellige.
I found one of the wolf upgrades there. If you actually mean base wolf gear, where exactly did you find it.
Hi, I have done all the quests for the Wolven gear and have crafted the Chest Armor to Mastercraft and the Boots to Enhanced but I am not getting the option in the crafting menu for enhanced or superior for the trousers or gauntlets.

Anyone else experiencing this problem.

ast486 is having a problem crafting the superior chest armor. Here is where it is discussed:

Gurke.836: So let me start by saying that I really like that the developers added some wolf school gear into the game however my problem is that it's absolutly useless up to 3/4 of the game. I didn't finish the game yet but since I've done everything in Velen and Novigard and at this point roaming in Skellige which is the 3 area I really don't see any reason bothering with the wolf gear which is unlockable only if you arrive in Kaer Morhen, the last area.

I like to take my time with the game but I also like unique things which the witcher gear somehow represents. Got the griffin, cat and the ursine witcher gear whereas ursine is my favourite one and I would really like to get the wolf school gear but that would mean rushing trough the main story just to get to the specific location. Not going to happen. I'm also confused by the level requirements for the armor. At the time you arrive in Kaer Mohren you'd be at least level 20 whereas the wolf school gear requires you 14.You don't have this problem with the others witcher sets, except for ursine witcher gear maybe. But it's easily obtainable after you arrive in Velen if you have enough coin.

What I would like to see is simple. Just remove the Kaer Mohren requirement.
I've been to Skellige and done the majority of the main island, and I believe I completed everything there is to do on Hindersfjal and Faroe, but the other 3 minor islands I hadn't been to as well as dozens of tiny islands and various smuggler's cache locations and whatnot. I completed almost all quests that were 2 levels higher than Geralt's level or lower which were doable and decided that I needed to head to the mainland for a bit in order to do some quests in Velen and Novigrad that I had leveled up to be able to handle. I went to Novigrad, Oxenfurt, Crow's Perch and random other places on the No Man's Land map finishing off quests and scavenger hunts I wasn't ready for previously as well as random monsters/locations I wasn't powerful enough for previously. When I exhausted everything I decided I now either had to go back to Skellige to work on the missions on Spikeroog etc. or to Kaer Morhen and I basically let my curiousity to see Kaer Morhen win. I went there and did the Uma quest and spent quite some time there doing all the various quests with Eskel and Lambert (hey, that sounds amazingly close to Siskel and Ebert! Perhaps the Witchers could to movie reviews!), and various scavenger hunt quests.

I more or less saw everything there is to see and do in Kaer Morhen and was very exploratory so I probably found every crate/chest there is to find there including all of the various witcher gear. One cool thing is I stumbled upon Leo's grave (Witcher that died in the first game), which was a cool homage to Leo.

I'm currently using the Feline witcher gear but I have the Ursine diagrams and most of the bear diagrams too, and now I have all of the Wolf ones (that have quest-unlocked anyway). The wolf gear that is useful is higher level than I am yet so I wont be able to utilize it for a while, but that doesn't mean it isn't useful.

I exhausted what I could do in Kaer Morhen, went back to Novigrad temporarily to sell of crap and do a few more quests that I'd leveled up in Kaer Morhen for, and then went back to Skellige to work on the 3 remaining islands I had not been to yet, plus to complete more quests on the mainland I was not powerful enough for previously. Right now I am level 28 and have pretty good gear for that level IMHO, but the Wolf gear is significantly better than what I have now too.

I'll be leveling up doing the remainder of Skellige and a few more things on the mainland I'm sure and eventually will be capable of using the wolf gear, and unless I find other gear that is better than it before then I don't see why the wolf gear would not be quite valuable. It was actually quite fun to go and find all of the wolf gear, some cool caves and scenery in the Kaer Morhen map.

In short, everything in the game has a purpose, but whether a specific thing will be useful or not depends on how you play the game and where you're at uniquely at a given point. For example, I completed the Hattori quests and he made me a special sword.... that was significantly crap compared to what I was already using. It happens.

Sure, why not. You're not pegged to a single map, so you can go back and forth whenever you want. So far here is the order I've played my game up to level 28:

White Orchard
Vizima
No Man's Land - Velen (all over)
No Man's Land - Velen (Oxenfurt)
No Man's Land - Novigrad
No Man's Land - (various locations finishing up open quests)
Skellige - Ard Skellige - (main island + various ? in the water surrounding it)
Skellige - Hindersfjal - (quests + ?'s in water)
Skellige - Faroe (quests + ?'s in water)
No Man's Land - Novigrad
No Man's Land - Velen (various locations for side quests and other that I wasn't high enough level for previously)
Kaer Morhen - (main story, various scavenger hunts for wolf gear and all side quests, everything I was able to do)
Novigrad (sell off crap from Kaer Morhen, do a few more quests)
Skellige - Ard Skellige (main island few minor things)
Skellige - Undvik - (Marlin Coast briefly)
Skellige - waters (random surfing for sea loot, stumbled upon Isle of Mists by accident apparently)
Skellige - Spikeroog (currently where I am now)

You can quite literally hit up a fast travel post and go back and forth any time you want. I favour doing as much as I can on one map before moving on to another as it's more immersive that way, but some quests open on other maps end up way overdue then too, so I swung around to knock off some of them a few times. Just do whatever seems fun, and if you don't want to progress the main story line just avoid doing the actual main story quest until you're ready to move on. You can still visit any map though for side quests and exploration, just don't trigger any main story stuff until you're ready to.

My current plan is to do as much as I can on Spikeroog, then patrol the waters all around the area to see everything there is to see both in the water and on the billion smallish islands around there, head back to Undvik to do the quests there and in the water around it, then on to An Skellig for the same, possibly hit up the main island if there are any undone quests I'm leveled up enough to do. Then I'll likely be off to Novigrad/Velen again to do a sell off and complete any other side quests I'm powerful enough for before getting back to the main story line.

That's my general game plan anyway but subject to change based on whatever random crap happens in game. :) One thing is for sure though, is that I wont have to worry about being kidnapped in my sleep by the Dark Brotherhood right when I have a big agenda to get through and end up having to kill them all because they pissed me off. :)

Expansion packs are on the way with additional XX hours of gameplay. Level 34 is not the end :)
The question is, will you want to play this game Q4 this year, months after finishing the main story line?
It's all indicative of how messed up this game is in regards to loot distribution.

The first piece of wolven gear is level 14, right? And iirc you have to fight a level 23 wraith to get it.

The number of times I've killed something only to find it was guarding armor or swords 9 levels lower than it was is astounding...

Ibir Hattori's level 24 quest and he gives me a level 15 sword. No wonder everybody hates elves.
