Hi All,

I am just curious about this issue, where you are not rewarded XP for missions of a certtain level.

I just became aware of it today, and it seems I unknowingly encoutered it at least 15 hours of gameplay ago, I just spent most of yesterday exploring Novigrad and clearing all the active, lower level missions.

I did notice a good while back I wasnt getting XP for some quests, or not seeing it aleast, but earlier on I was still leveling OK and I was so tuned into the game I really didnt take much notice. I am now at a point were I am too weak to complete the majority of the missions I have available.

So my question is, when this gets patched will it automatically apply the XP we missed?

If so I can just keep exploring until its sorted, but if it cant be added back it would be good to know just now, that way I can just bump my XP up to roughly where I think I should be with cheat engine, (I think, no reason I shouldn't be able to) that way I can get back in the game now and wont have to wait & restart later.

Actually, Follow up question on tha back of that, Could that kill my game & cause problems after it gets patched?

Any word on this? I would imagine its probably gonna be an easy fix, but it would be good to know either way.

Thanks.
CDPRed answered on their TW3 forums. The "lost" XP points will not be applied back.

The glitch seems to only concern the quests 6 levels lower than your character (gray in the Quests menu?). It actually seems logical to me not to get XP because you did something way too easy for you. But still, the devs said it was a bug.

Thanks for the reply, I actually agree, thats why I didnt think it was an issue until I read it, I only started looking when I noticed I was struggling against a lot of enemies. The Arch-Griffin pretty much just looked at me and I died! :)

Hopefully I can lvl up a bit doing some random exploring, still a few notice boards to get in Skillige so can try make it up without having to use cheat engine. The problem is that if I have lost 2-3 levels worth, I may run into issues if there is no way to get them back in game.

I have been spending a lot of time exploring anyway, (which is why I had so many grey quests) I'll just keep doing that, hopefully it'll work out.
I only did quests around my level or above it and I got no xp at all. Sounds fun, right? (I'm level 2 BTW)

I am afraid you are mistaken, a lot of people are confused on this but you are NOT meant to get xp for the greyed out quests. That is supposed to happen. The bug affects the main quest after you complete the pyres of novigrad quest and for some people (me included) secondary quests as well. I tested this myself. But witcher contracts are fine.

The very first Witcher contract is supposed to give how much? I don't think I've seen any xp when I finished the noonwraith contract.

I would not worry too much about the lost levels, once you get past level ~18 you level up very fast and actually become over-leveled. I was gaining about half a level to a level per quest roughly.
So, does the 'fixing' of this issue in the upcoming patch mean we will continue to NOT get XP for quests rated 6 levels lower?

Because I have also been exploring, but have not taken on any notice board quests in Velen as of yet, and I am almost level 12, in the middle of the Ladies of the Wood quest.

This is the first I have heard of a contract not awarding xp, you must be one of the very unlucky ones. Also this means I am mistaken as well as it should not be affecting you in white orchard according to my info. I can't remember what you should get for that contract as I am way past that point, 40+ hours in. I would recommend just waiting till tomorrow. patch 1.05 is supposed to be released by then and should fix the xp bug.

Yes that is correct. It is a feature that you don't get xp for quests six levels below you. Not a bug. It is supposed to help prevent overleveling which is still a problem.

I see.

I *think* I am OK with that (the idea of not getting XP for quests is initially upsetting), because I always preferred the game to be too difficult, rather than too easy.

Afterall, it's why I set the difficulty level to Death March from the beginning. I want the challenge.

My bad, I suppose I didn't read the dev answer correctly. I think I'm not concerned with that XP bug but I never checked if the points mentionned in the pop-up windows "** XP RECEIVED" were actually "applied" to the stats. Need to have a look at that =S

That was already my plan. Won't waste my xp doing quests for nothing.
A lot of people are not aware that they have done quests w/o being rewarded w/ XP. I'm not talking about quests 6 levels below your current level but quests are well within range, from Vellen to Skellige and the most notorious one is the Pyres of Novigrad. I got that bug and I have tried everything to test out if I can get the XP (level 14 doing level 10 quest) but to no available. That includes doing quest grant me XP before doing Pyres. And in the official game forum, some did like I did and got XP.
The trigger of the bug are so random that everything you heard are just a small sample of nothing concrete. Even CDR Projekt could not put a finger on to it hence delayed patch from this Monday to we don't know yet for PC platform. They could release the patch anytime from soon to whenever next week and they have not say anything about it. So do whatever you want and if you don't get the message displayed the XP at the end of quest, welcome to the club.
WTF who tough of this stupid design - 6lvl lower quests-> NO XP??? GG CDPR u managed to make one of the stupidest designs i ever saw in RPG games
You can manually add back in your experience. There is a Youtube video by Stephen Chapman titled "Witcher 3 Cheats: Leveling Up (Method 2......" that explains how to do it.
