As many others I got this game free with a new nvidia card - in spite of what the voucher said I cold not redeem it on steam only here. I've no clue how this service works, so;

When (realistically if - over the years quite a few developers have promised Linux ports that never happened) this title gets released for Linux will I be able to download the Linux version via this web site or am I stuck with a (to me) worthless windows version?

AFAIK there hasn't been official confirmation on Linux version. This wish is highly supported by community, more than 5700 GOG members would like to have a Linux version. You can look the debates on this topic there. If CDPR release Linux version, you'll be able to grab it from GOG for sure, no doubt. For now you're stuck with Win version.
GOG said that when the Linux version will come out, you'll get it on GOG. So potentially yes, Nvidia code can help for that. But no one knows when that can happen, and they never made any public announcements.
The Witcher 3 will be on STEAM OS & STEAM OS IS LINUX ( DEBIAN )

Under Wine probably.

There were some ads, but CDPR never confirmed them, which makes them rather moot.

No, Wine can't support it since it will use DX11, which is far from ready in Wine.

Didn't know that. Thank for the info!

The Witcher 3 will eventually be released for Steam OS, which is a linux based operative system. So yeah, I guess you'll be able to download the linux version when it is released.

The question was about GOG. Coming out for SteamOS doesn't guarantee GOG release without confirmation from CDPR. And they never even confirmed SteamOS release itself officially. They did it unofficially though (that when it will came out, GOG will get it too).

The SteamOS release wasn't officially confirmed, however, Steam had a Steam OS sale some time ago, including The Witcher 3. And it's easy to think that, if they code a version for Steam OS, why wouldn't they release a linux version as well? Go to the steam store, and look for a game that can be played in Steam OS but can't be played in another Linux system. Besides, who do you think would code the linux version? It would obviously be CDPR. Why wouldn't they sell the linux version in GOG as well?

Easy - Metro Last Light Redux, Linux version. Present on Steam, no sign of it on GOG. May be CDPR will work on the Linux version, but may be some other studio. So far it doesn't seem like they have any serious Linux developers in the engine team and they ignored all questions about such development. Even Linux release of the Witcher 2 wasn't done by them.

You got it wrong. I didn't ask you about a game that can be played in linux but its linux version is not available in GOG. GOG and CDPR are one company. It would be stupid to give Steam a linux version and not distribute themselves.

I'd say yes, but their official silence about it is not very encouraging. So my take on this - don't make any assumptions until they'll make a public statement.
