To CD Projekt Red - bring Witcher 3 and your other games to Linux please.

Added byshmerl's avatarshmerl

With Linux support coming to GOG in the future, it's good to gather some feedback and show CD Projekt Red (who are GOG's sister company) whether their users want their games to be released for Linux. This is primarily about future titles (such as Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077) since that's what CD Projekt Red are working now at present. But if you want to mention interest in the past titles (Witcher 1 and 2), feel free to comment as well, but don't expect that to be an an easily accepted request, since working on past titles is a less probable event naturally.

If you wonder what's the point of asking this here, GOG has many Linux users, so it's easier to gather feedback here, rather than let's say on CD Projekt Red forums.

I have a perfectly-working Windows machine at home, but I'll take the "no Tux, no bucks" route here.

Aspys are good candidates, but I think CDPR should build their own expertise in Linux and OpenGL development.

I already bought Witcher 2 on Steam and will definetly buy Witcher 1 and 3 if they get a Linux (native preferred!) port.
How about hiring "Ryan C. Gordon" for doing the ports?!

Hm, if a real native version was confirmed I would definitely pre-order, but with the sad state of the Witcher2 port and it not even being available here, only to the steamers, I am skeptical.

Witcher 2 for Linux is still in beta (see https://github.com/KillaW0lf04/The-Witcher-2-Issues#announcements ).

GOG waits until developers would finish improving performance. Steam on the other hand offers the game for beta testing.

Hi guys. I'd hope you can help me because I'm new here and I dont know where eles can I ask this.
I just pre ordered the witcher 3 and I understand I deserve to get a free copy of neverwinter nights for download. the problem is I dont really understand how and where I can download it from.
If anyone who had already preordered the witcher 3 and downloaded neverwinter nights, could you please explain to me how to do so? Thanks.

Ubuntu 14.04 running nvidia GeForce GTX 780, 16gb O memmory. I don't own any windows machines, I only ever get things running under wine. I also would pay full price if Galaxy worked under linux and Witcher 3 were one of the titles. Please make it happen! And port any other games you can as well! A huge chunk of the world is running on Linux, and if Intel and ATI are hard to work with just make an NVidia card a requirement. Anyone who's on Linux at this point has probably already picked up an NVidia card specifically because of these kinds of issues.

No, it's not. It was some poster on Steam front page which was never confirmed. Check out actual preorder pages (on both Steam and GOG). Not a word about Linux there.

GOG reps answered this request with official refutation. See the forum thread for details:

The Witcher 3 is already confirmed to be coming to Linux so this wishlist item is already a done deal. There is misinformation in this thread claiming that it is not coming to Linux, but that is not true. The game is even listed on Steam pre-order as being available for SteamOS and Linux and was a prominent part of Steam's front page ad when it first appeared in the Steam store. GOG employees have confirmed it will be available for Linux on GOG as well. If anyone is seeing contradicting statements out there about this it most certainly isn't from GOG or CD Projekt employees.

I bought Witcher 2 first back in August 2011, but I did not have the hardware yet. Now when I have solid gamping pc I mostly use Xubuntu. So I bought it now on Steam sales, just because it had Linux support. It still needs some proper settings to run properly on AMD Radeon HD7950, but it works.

I prepaid Witcher 3 already and I am quite sure I will be using Linux for days and I would like to play it there.

I do not like to switch to Windows for DirectX games. Please make Linux port you priority, dont re-rellase it months after Windows ports. It happened to Banished, I do not like Wine.

If TW3 comes to Linux, it would be one of the most glorious titles for the platform. But I'm skeptical about the performance, Linux isn't known to run heavy titles well because of poor drivers support. This makes it hard for the developers to cater to Linux platform, not to mention the immense effort that goes on creating a native linux port.

Yes. I also would love to see more Linux love around here.
But
1. native! not this awkward wrapper stuff
2. generic Linux support. Write specifications like needs Kernel 3.x and mesa 10.1.x or something, that should be possible instead of any Ubuntu stuff only support. The stuff from Humble Indie bundle normally works like that.
For now I got Witcher 1 and 2 but for the future I'd like to have the 3 on Linux.

I use Archlinux and I loved to see TW2 in Linux (I had before for Windows, but I prefer to buy good games supported by Linux). CDProject, you are in the good way with your ideas (DRMfree, great free updates, artwork...) and you are having more and more fans for that (and the quality of the games, of course). I will buy TW3 for sure (as i said, your respect for the user has a feedback), but if you "port" to Linux there's so much people waiting for a movent like that. Keep going, even if you don't do it for Linux (i understand that can be hard), if you continue with this kind of ideas the company will take benefits. People hasn't problems to pay when they doesn't feel that a company is kidding them. TW3 in Linux (SteamOS or Steam for Linux for example, if the problem is the compatibility between distributions) would be amazing and a really revolutionary movement in PC gaming

Witcher 2 is out on SteamOs now, so it should probably just be a matter of time before that port is adjusted to run on the distros GoG intends to support(Mint and vanilla Ubuntu if i am not mistaken).
