To CD Projekt Red - bring Witcher 3 and your other games to Linux please.

Added byshmerl's avatarshmerl

With Linux support coming to GOG in the future, it's good to gather some feedback and show CD Projekt Red (who are GOG's sister company) whether their users want their games to be released for Linux. This is primarily about future titles (such as Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077) since that's what CD Projekt Red are working now at present. But if you want to mention interest in the past titles (Witcher 1 and 2), feel free to comment as well, but don't expect that to be an an easily accepted request, since working on past titles is a less probable event naturally.

If you wonder what's the point of asking this here, GOG has many Linux users, so it's easier to gather feedback here, rather than let's say on CD Projekt Red forums.

If this game will be available on Linux it will be insta-buy for me and a lot of people, and yeah, native port is preferable, but wrapped game is fine if it's playable. Same for Cyberpunk 2077

I too would love to know if TW3 would come to Linux (Native/wrapped - Doesn't matter as long as it works). I understand at this point in development, major changes aren't happening, but it would be nice to know one way or the other.

DRM free and Linux goes hand in hand. It would be very strange to not release it on an open platform!

I'd like this too. I see myself moving more permanently to Linux in the future and would like to be able to play the witcher game.

Also Cyberpunk 2077/

P.S
Any news on Cyberpunk 2077?

CDPR did respond to an e-mail request, and said that they indeed plan the Linux release of TW3. They said the public announcement should be a little later. So this is great news!

I will only buy games that run on linux. I REALLY want the witcher 3, but if they don't port it to Linux, then I will not buy it. Like all corporations, they don't care what their customers want. They care about what they will BUY. If you care about Linux, and the freedom that is stands for, you will do the same. Don't just whine, give them incentive. Show software developers you mean business and put your $ where your mouth is.

I played Witcher 2 on Windows and I liked a lot. I was waiting for February 24(my birthday) but It was posponed. Now I got a pretty powerful system with Debian Linux, Valve games run pretty well on it. Can you please port your software on this freely available System? I wish I can play Witcher 3 on it.

You already have my money, so now I can only hope for you to regain my trust for future releases.

Wait... Witcher 3 is not officially confirmed for Linux?
I have both W1 and W2 on my linux gaming rig. Both completed and are excellent, though W1 running through wine.
I had the impression that W3 would be released on Linux for sure. Now that this is not confirmed, I ain't pre-ordering. When it is confirmed, I would gladly pay extra and get the biggest, the baddest version of it - if only I could play it natively. From the videos and pictures that are out, I know for sure that wine will not do with this title.

CDPR, please, bring the beloved franchise to Linux audiences!
I am not drawing a good parallel here, but UbuntuPhone's second flash-sale happened today and it got sold out in less than 10 minutes... we are willing to pay, to support the titles and franchises which are brought to our platform!

I know that you care due to the massive performance improvement I got with W2's latest patch. Thank you guys! (and ladies, if present)

Generally speaking, I'd love to see all games playable on Linux. But I know that request is a lot to ask for, so I won't hold it against you ;)

I would like to play the entire Witcher series on Linux - Witcher 1 included - along with any future titles released by you or any other developers that sell their game on GOG. Again, I know it's a lot to ask for. I just wanted you to be certain where I stand when it comes to Linux gaming.

Side note: Is there a deb installer for Witcher 2, or is there just the .tar archive?

Additional side note: Native Linux preferred.

Linux support would be appreciated. I like having a system under my complete control. I'm less cautious of Microsoft since they changed management; and had they made Windows 8 more like 10 I likely wouldn't be using Linux right now. But seeing where Microsoft went knowing they didn't have to please their customers to keep their business, I'd rather not be forced to support Microsoft just to play games at this point.

I use linux as my primary operating system for this simple reason:

I hate windows.

I can't stand windows, so I have become accustomed to using Ubuntu and playing games on it; either through wine or a offical release.

When The Witcher 2 was released for linux, I was excited and bought it as soon as I could. I had no issues playing the game apart from artifacts which were a hardware problem. I don't care that it uses eON, I'm just happy that it runs on linux.

When that ad for The Witcher 3 came up on the steam store saying that it was coming to Steamos, I preordered it as soon as I could. Then later I noticed that the ad no longer said coming to steamos. I started to do research and serveral articles said that it had been confirmed, which serveral months later after reading the forums I found that this information was false and that it wasn't comfirmed and that CDPR would consider releasing it after the initial release.

I still have not canceled my preorder, nor do I intend to. I wish however for the game to come to linux. even if it uses eON instead of being native. As long as it is playable, I'm happy.

So please, bring The Witcher 3 to Linux, this is all I'm asking you to do.

Dear CD project, a lot has been said about the avability (and unavaibility) of this game in Linux/SteamOS, and still its not clear if the game will come out for linux in a future. Since there is a good discount I can benefit from, for prepurchasing Witcher 3, I'm anxious for pre purchase it. But I cannot do, since is not clear yet if the game will be available for my OS (ubuntu). Please, try to make clear this point with an official word, BEFORE the pre-purchase limit time ends, so people that are in my same condition can choose to pre-purchase the game, or not.

Hellu,

First: I want and will buy only for a NATIVE support of Witcher3 for GNU/Linux.
Second: I'm totally disagree with the idea to support only steamOS. This is really a bad strategy. It is a really bad vision to thing that GNU/Linux user could switch from their prefered OS to SteamOS just for a game.

I am increasingly buying games only if they run well in Linux, either with Wine, or natively. I don't care, so long as it works. The Witcher 1, in its current states, doesn't work well at all in Wine or CrossOver (the commerical version of Wine). I don't know about the state of W2, but I can't see myself buying W3 unless it runs natively in Linux since DX11 means that there isn't a chance of it running in Wine.
