To CD Projekt Red - bring Witcher 3 and your other games to Linux please.

Added byshmerl's avatarshmerl

With Linux support coming to GOG in the future, it's good to gather some feedback and show CD Projekt Red (who are GOG's sister company) whether their users want their games to be released for Linux. This is primarily about future titles (such as Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077) since that's what CD Projekt Red are working now at present. But if you want to mention interest in the past titles (Witcher 1 and 2), feel free to comment as well, but don't expect that to be an an easily accepted request, since working on past titles is a less probable event naturally.

If you wonder what's the point of asking this here, GOG has many Linux users, so it's easier to gather feedback here, rather than let's say on CD Projekt Red forums.

Yes please. I would love a native version of the game on Linux, or a great port if that is not possible.

I switched over from Windows to Linux when I built a new PC at end of 2014 so unless Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 come to Linux, I won't be playing them. I'm playing Witcher 2 on Linux at the moment and loving it so hope I can continue with Witcher 3

You shouldn't be. Windows has built in DRM from the time of Vista and it's not going away. You should never trust it.

Linux support would be appreciated. I like having a system under my complete control. I'm less cautious of Microsoft since they changed management; and had they made Windows 8 more like 10 I likely wouldn't be using Linux right now. But seeing where Microsoft went knowing they didn't have to please their customers to keep their business, I'd rather not be forced to support Microsoft just to play games at this point.

@scmerl, thanks...anyways, official requeriments were unveiled last week, and as pc OS, windows is required. Definetly that was an official word for me. Our hopes comes now for a post launch version. I desire them good success on the launch of the game, since I think its going to be the best game of 2015. I just wont be playing it until it comes for linux.

A GNU/Linux version of Witcher 3 (a real one, not like witcher 2) would be awesome. I won't pay for a non-native game

@r1esg0: Official word about preordering was said already. Basically don't preorder if you want a Linux version.

If you missed it, see details here: http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/the-witcher-3-for-linux-remains-officially-unconfirmed.4167

I use linux as my primary operating system for this simple reason:

I hate windows.

I can't stand windows, so I have become accustomed to using Ubuntu and playing games on it; either through wine or a offical release.

When The Witcher 2 was released for linux, I was excited and bought it as soon as I could. I had no issues playing the game apart from artifacts which were a hardware problem. I don't care that it uses eON, I'm just happy that it runs on linux.

When that ad for The Witcher 3 came up on the steam store saying that it was coming to Steamos, I preordered it as soon as I could. Then later I noticed that the ad no longer said coming to steamos. I started to do research and serveral articles said that it had been confirmed, which serveral months later after reading the forums I found that this information was false and that it wasn't comfirmed and that CDPR would consider releasing it after the initial release.

I still have not canceled my preorder, nor do I intend to. I wish however for the game to come to linux. even if it uses eON instead of being native. As long as it is playable, I'm happy.

So please, bring The Witcher 3 to Linux, this is all I'm asking you to do.

Dear CD project, a lot has been said about the avability (and unavaibility) of this game in Linux/SteamOS, and still its not clear if the game will come out for linux in a future. Since there is a good discount I can benefit from, for prepurchasing Witcher 3, I'm anxious for pre purchase it. But I cannot do, since is not clear yet if the game will be available for my OS (ubuntu). Please, try to make clear this point with an official word, BEFORE the pre-purchase limit time ends, so people that are in my same condition can choose to pre-purchase the game, or not.

Hellu,

First: I want and will buy only for a NATIVE support of Witcher3 for GNU/Linux.
Second: I'm totally disagree with the idea to support only steamOS. This is really a bad strategy. It is a really bad vision to thing that GNU/Linux user could switch from their prefered OS to SteamOS just for a game.

Dear CDProject:
Please make it clear if Linux will be supported before the chance to preorder is gone. I would buy or preorder instantly if its coming to Linux and I also want to get all you preorder-bonus-Stuff like NWN... (which runs in LInux with some extra work afaik).

I am increasingly buying games only if they run well in Linux, either with Wine, or natively. I don't care, so long as it works. The Witcher 1, in its current states, doesn't work well at all in Wine or CrossOver (the commerical version of Wine). I don't know about the state of W2, but I can't see myself buying W3 unless it runs natively in Linux since DX11 means that there isn't a chance of it running in Wine.

I am really waiting for The Witcher 1 and 3 for Linux, I only use Ubuntu and don´t like to play on wine. I only buy games if they have Linux support. Already have multiple Linux games in steam and is nice that GOG is supporting Linux too.

i'm still finishing witcher1 on linux with wine, and have already buyed the 2 to support gog and cdproject, but would immensely appreciate a linux binary (native possibly) of both.

i'm really uncertain on the withcer3 preorder because no linux support certainty here (but announced in steamOS ).
seeing i don't own nor plan to have any windows machine, and at most could loan an old win laptop :)

I already bought Witcher 2 on Steam and will definetly buy Witcher 1 and 3 if they get a Linux (native preferred!) port.
How about hiring "Ryan C. Gordon" for doing the ports?!

Witcher 2 for Linux is still in beta (see https://github.com/KillaW0lf04/The-Witcher-2-Issues#announcements ).

GOG waits until developers would finish improving performance. Steam on the other hand offers the game for beta testing.

Ubuntu 14.04 running nvidia GeForce GTX 780, 16gb O memmory. I don't own any windows machines, I only ever get things running under wine. I also would pay full price if Galaxy worked under linux and Witcher 3 were one of the titles. Please make it happen! And port any other games you can as well! A huge chunk of the world is running on Linux, and if Intel and ATI are hard to work with just make an NVidia card a requirement. Anyone who's on Linux at this point has probably already picked up an NVidia card specifically because of these kinds of issues.
