Avalan: Sad that I'm trying to consider "...not possible for now." as hope.

I'm very much of the view that the phrase "...switch to an xbox pad..." is not actually a recommendation when using a PC. I'm also thinking that TECHNICAL SUPPORT are stretching the term hotfix.
What the hell? Did the forum ate my post or what? I quoted this post earlier telling that CDRProject RED sold out because they are recommending a crappy controller for a PC game.

I'm going to post again to see if that happens.

Testing.
nice answer from the CDPR Red support... :(

I nearly preordered the pass too, but got a bad feeling with all the late communications...

I feel a bit less cheated now...

Never again CDPR, never again...

JPR out!
Trying to play on AZERTY... but the key binding is AWFULL, the game is beautiful ..but unplayable.
Will wait for a patch, playing like this would certainly kill my mood.

When i think i am waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 ...i wonder if they will do this kind of mistake again...

So, do your job !

LaughingCrow: Leftie as well. Can't play unless I remap.

GOG refused a refund - said I already downloaded. DUH - If I had known I wouldn't have pre-ordered in the first place. I have a PS4 console and had I wanted to play the game on a console instead of a PC, I would have ordered if for the PlayStation.

Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 and all the other games I bought on GOG can be remapped so I can play.

Got burned with Dragon Age: Inquisition even after waiting 4 months. Seeing all the PC problems, I decided on the PS4 version. After downloading the Black Emporium DLC - game locks up for a lot of players. Getting so you can't trust the big studios once they have your money.

Per CD Redprojekt Support:

I'm afraid that changing certain key-bindings is not possible for now.
The only hotfix I can recommend is to switch to an xbox pad (both 360 and x1 are compatible)

Kind regards,

TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Wow, if this is their reply then it feels like a serious slap in my face :(

So, in spite of this long list of disgruntled PC gamers they have made this a "low priority issue" and might not fix it in the near future.

Instead we're supposed to buy console controller.

Sorry CDPR, not going to happen. I'm too much of a PC gamer to ever touch a controller, let alone buy one. A well made PC port doesn't need a controller (GTA V comes to mind).

I'm also sorry that I preordered your game. Lesson learned.

Abtacha: It's not about memorizing a new control scheme, I just hate using WSAD. I've been playing games using EDSF for movement for 20 years or so, I can wait a few days for CDPR to fix their game. And they'll have to fix it because right now the game will be unplayable for people with an AZERTY keyboard or other non english keyboard layouts.
This. I'm a touch typist. The fingers on my left hand just naturally want to go on the ASDF keys, with the index finger on the F. Having to shift my hand over by a key to use WASD controls just feels incredibly awkward. My index finger is searching for the nub on the F key and just can't find it with my hand in that position and, therefore, ever since Quake came out in 1996, I've been using ESDF for movement. It's the first adjustment I always make whenever I fire up a new game.

CAN I play the game using WASD? Sure I can, but not without being conscious of my left hand the entire time. If I stop thinking about it, my hand WILL drift over a key to find the bump on the F, and then suddenly I can't control the game until I move back. It really breaks the immersion, you know?

Hmmm... did your post that went missing show up, then disappear or did it never appear?

Not sure if you posted what you said again. I didn't see it here, but you may have posted it in another thread.

Either way :o) recommending a controller for a problem is pretty bad in my book. For me, in no way would I ever spend actually money, when I already have a mouse and keyboard. I *like* my Razer Naga. I know some love controllers, which is fine, but recommending entirely different control hardware, that costs money, to play a game is unacceptable to me.

Hope your post shows/showed up.
You can't rebind movement keys in the game, however you can rebind the keys yourself in The Witcher 3 file input.
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\The Witcher 3 and then it's the input file. Make a backup of the file before you make any changes. It might take a while to find the correct lines in the file to rebind movement keys but it is possible.

joshnthayer: Seriously, what the heck?!
I don't play any game with WSAD, Always EDSF.
esdf is love! esdf is life! i do not understand why people refuse to move away from wasd; as it limits the number of keys accessible and is harder to find without looking at the keyboard because there is no little bump like on the F key, which is specifically designed to let a person find the home keys quickly and without looking.

but ease of use aside shifting over one to esdf allows more number keys to be easily accessed (easily reach 1–6 without reach), adds 3 keys under the pinkey for quick access, makes use of the middle of the keyboard (where keys are almost never assigned by default to anything important), and makes the important keys from the right side of the keyboard that much closer to your keyboard hand.

but even if you disagree with all of the above you cannot agree that it is right to make lefties suffer because you were either too lazy or stupid to program key rebind functionality into your game.

goes off to manually set the keybinds in the input file.

WASD always baffled me, but then so does ESDF :o)

What are your views on SDGB? :oD

Apart from that, I always thought that more of a 'middle of the keyboard' approach made more sense, but people do love WASD. Which is fine. I always run out of keys so far left.

But forcing *anyone* to use WASD is beyond me. I have no idea why that is.

That's why I have, since the original Rainbow Six, used the arrow keys for movement.

I'm an ex Pit Fighter, my hands were always way too big for WASD.

how would one even use sdgb? that seems like a two handed thing. sdfv would make more sense to me, but even that strikes me as weird. i have nothing against it though

Ahhh, Rainbow Six. Good times. Oh, wait, did you mean the actual *proper* Rainbow Six, from the late nineties? Yes, I'm a Rainbow Six snob :o)

The arrow keys were always interesting to me. I still couldn't (edited for spelling) really figure out how people had access to enough keys, buuuuut :o) maybe the 'big hands' thing is key there?

I *think* I used the arrow keys for Doom. Maybe. But not for very long. Wow, that was a long time ago.

Depends on your hand size. Keeping all fingers on adjoining keys is uncomfortable, long term even painful, if your hand isn't exactly small.
So people find different solutions depending on palm, finger length, finger thickness and so on.

It would be nice to allow them to apply their respective key bindings.

I'm not sure, forum probably ate it. And yes, they SHOULD NOT recommend a bloody controller. Hopefully they fix the keybindings in the next patch.
