Metallica1327: Every time I click on the launch game from the witcher 2 launcher I get a window that says "please use launcher to activate game. Does this mean I have to register? If so when I try to register my copy it says it can't connect to server. HELP PLZ!
This is exactly what is happening to me. TW2 then puts the launcher on the bar at the bottom of my computer. I can press the launcher 100X, but it will just tell me to use the launcher.

My question, iIs this something that would be fixed with a patch? I am willing to wait rather than futz around with the computer and possibly do some damage. If this sort of issue is not something that is usually patchable, then I will give a few of the suggested tweaks a try.

I understand a patch is expected next week, though what is will patch is a mystery at this point.
I have been having the exact same problem and was unable to run patcher (which actually seems to download the activation files) as I was getting a message about not having permissions etc. Despite raising with GOG support on launch day with full details of the problem the only response I got was the regitsration servers have been having problems but should be up now, which they aren't. Looking at the responses here though I tried temporarily disabling my Kaspersky anti-virus protection and then running patcher and it worked, the activation files downloaded and installed and I can now run teh game from Launcher. I did not have to re-install or do any other modifications.
Figured it out!!!

I am using windows 7 and turning off real time protection in Microsoft security essentials before installing game. That is not enough. YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT "MICROSOFT ANTIMALWARE SERVICE" is stopped via Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.

Run the patcher.exe with this service off and the game will patch.

You can turn on Microsoft Security Essentials back on then (which will start the antimalware service)

This is great if you have MSE installed, but I don't and I get the patcher error. I have the Direct2Drive US version of Witcher2, and I already installed and acivated. I can play on 1.0. I get the "installed game version is invalid or incomplete" error using either Patcher_ATARI or Patcher_DD.

I checked anyway and I don't have the service named above, and I don't want to, nor should I have to re-download 8GB from D2D to re-install a working game, because a 20MB patch is broken.

This kind of crap should not happen; wheres the QC?
