created small utility to watch registry and restore GameData after death. Just run it before the game, and after death select first item in list created before death, click "Restore" and restart the game.

Does it actually work? Does it "restore" playability after you die in Insane mode?

yes
I've made it myself and tested on my saves.

Then, much obliged. I've been meaning to do an Insane playthrough as my 4th, but decided against it due to some cheap deaths in the game.

Thanks for this.

EDIT: By the way, do I alt-tab to restore data, or do I restore after quitting the game? I understood the game needs to be restarted once you restore the registry.

don't forget - this program should be running to log GameData changes, if you die when this program is not running - you will lose all your saves and you won't be able to restore them

after quitting the game - until you quit it will use old value, you should restart game to load new value

P.S. attached quick guide :)

P.P.S. after reading your edit - you can restore in alt+tab, but to load new value you should restart

Thanks for the guide.
after playing game for 5 hours i came to conclusion that GameData is profiles storage (compressed most likely) =/ It saves: your deaths, your progress (every time i complete quest it changes), and maybe something more. Edit: also changes when i make a choice.

This is great, muchas gracias!
thank you for this - but I can't get it to work - could you possibly do a quick explanation of exactly how to use it - would be much appreciated thanks
got it - it works great thanks.
Someone still has this and can upload it somewhere else than Megaupload? Would be fantastic.

Somehow I knew that this would disappear someday, so I backed it up despite never using it before... Except for when I tested it five minutes ago to make sure it still works (and it does).

Well done! :P Seriously, thank you, much appreciated.
I like the great challenge Insane provides, but in case of immense stupidity or other unpredictable reasons this might come in very, very handy.

Edit:
Of course, also thanks to Demoniko! Sorry that I almost forgot you. ;)

jklinders: I have a feeling that they really wanted to cheat proof the insane mode. Having extra saves or importing save files into the folder probably has the game flag them as potential cheat files so it just kills 'em. They really kinda went hardcore on this.

Demoniko: no, i used procmon to watch what game does when you die. It just writes something to registry is all that i noticed. I still think they store hidden profiles somewhere. Can anyone confirm my point? I will upload my last save game, will it work for you (if my point is right - then it should work, because you don't have this profile yet)?

Dear Demoniko,

I want to say thank you for your awesome savegame backup program! I love it!
But I have two questions about it.

But hey I have two questions for you about this program.

1. Have you developed a newer version of the program?
2. Can you add an option in your program that allows you to export
the registry code (or other data) that your program finds to restore your savegames
after dying? Why I am asking this is because well sometimes you have
to reinstall your computer or something and then you of course lose your
registry data (and or other data) and this means your Witcher 2 insane saves are broken and
useless. But if you can export the right registry keys using your awesome
program you can avoid this problem because when you reinstall your pc
and then import the exported registry key then voila it all works again.

Man I hope your still around and will answer us!
An old topic, I know, but I can please request that this program be re-uploaded? Seeing as MegaUpload was shut down?
