I've decided to buy the Collector's edition and preordered it from Amazon (living in the US).

On the day of the release the game came as expected. Unfortunately, the black tray had cracked completely on 3 sides, the statue was scratched and there was 1 die missing from the dice poker set. What, really?!

Thankfully, Amazon has a good RMA system and I ask for a replacement thinking that the initial try was an unfortunate mishap. The replacement came today and poor Geralt has a broken nose in his second marble "incarnation" that reaches me, plus multiple visible scratches. I should really post a picture of two very sad looking Geralts.

Come on... Couldn't someone think that shipping these in a little bubble wrap would be such an exquisite idea? What's with the worse than egg carton black cardboard?

Aside from the artbook, which I am sure many fans will want to get (through collector's editions or other means), what is the point if the statue is scratched if not broken and dice have a chance of missing?

Not sure who's responsible, but for such a deal they should be ashamed. The price was steep and you don't expect not one but two (!) editions to have so many problems.

I'm wondering if I should return them both... And, amusing to many of you, what I really wanted was the dice set.

P.S.: Haven't started the game yet -- bad work week. Hope to give it a try though in the coming weekend.
Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. Both the original order and a RMA from amazon have been damaged. I'm going to try one more time. If the third one shows up broken, I'm just going to return it and buy the digital version sometime down the road.

My statue was damaged as well. Not massively badly, but still enough to annoy me. Total lack of foresight regarding the packaging.

Same, from a store who are unable to get replacements. Lucky the rest of the package is so good.
The CE is, indeed, quite disappointing, if obscene in size (of the box, that is). A good hint book (as opposed to te very basic Game Guide which is included with all retail versions anyway) would have made the purchase worthwhile. For comparison, see the Fallout 3 book from Prima (especially the GOTY edition).

Packaging: my Witcher bust came barely scratched, but it left lots of dust in the box.

If CDP wanted to learn how to package premium editions (not just at premium prices), they might take a look at the cardboard (!) DVD/booklet wallet in such a version of Oblivion: something I still keep on my shelf, instead of the ugly and inconvenient standard DVD boxes.

Anyway, the CE is certainly not worth the asking price of $130.

Oh, and the map is a joke, but this is related to the not-so-open world of the otherwise good game.

I ordered mine from Gamestop, came the day of release in a giant box with plenty of air bags. Everything inside was intact and in pristine condition. Seeing as how only a few people posted especially in this forum that is full of people having software problems of the game. I'm guessing you were the unlucky few.
Thanks for the heads up. I just canceled my 2 CE's. I will just have to do with this lousy DIGITAL version. yes this is a great game.

I have to agree here. I pre-ordered from Gamestop and got it 12:01. I was the only Witcher 2 guy in a store full of teen age L.A. Noire folks. All items were in perfect condition.
Mh, can't really say anything bad about the CE on my part. Everything in pristine condition, everything that's supposed to be in is present, on-time delivery. And at a reduced price to boot.

(I live in germany and ordered from Amazon.de, normally the CE costs 99.90 Euros there, but during a six hour period on Feb. 28th, it was reduced to 69.90 Euros. Got lucky and ordered right then. :-D Haven't regretted it for a second so far.)

Guess you folks really got bad luck (or a pissed of delivery guy) there. :-|
I bought the CE from amazon.com, and it had to be shipped all the way to Canada

Everything was in perfect condition
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. My CE just arrived and the Statue is broken and completely dirty. Kinda sad considering how much I paid for it. :/

for reasons only known to myself (ok i'm disorganised and forgot) i ordered 3 of these things from 3 different suppliers. 2 of them are audibly banging around in the box, i didn't bother opening those, they're going back. last one sounded fine, the statue has some bits where the paint has worn off against the box, but sounds like i got off lightly!
Let's share pictures of our busted Geralt...Busts :-D

Here is my Geralt Bust. As you can see, he is chipped several places, but I don't really notice it unless I examine him real close. Maybe I should just paint him white... :-)

Also, I try to convince myself that he looks more like a real old statue this way :-)

I too have a damaged Geralt . Ordered from Amazon and it arrived day of launch. Outer box showed NO signs of rough or abusive handling, but the plastic was way too thin to support the weight of the bust. I cannot really blame CDPR as I'm sure it was the publisher who decided on such niceties as how many mils thick the plastic should be, but I'm still VERY disappointed as this was supposed to be kept in pristine condition while I played my GOG version. And of course Atari is silent about this in spite of a spate of people contacting them. Reminds me of the difficulty I had w/ W1 and getting a working registration code for it. I would return it, but since others have received even more damaged replacements I think I'll cut my losses.
At any rate just wanted to vent and hopefully spare someone else the problems associated with what otherwise was a pretty good CE. Also, the more of us that actually voice our concerns the more likely they will not repeat the same thing to others.
