It definitely does not depend by the RTX2000 series GPU. I've installed my old video card but the problem remains exactly the same in all the possible combination I tried before. Maybe could be the last windows update version 1809?
Did you installed directx9?

Yes, I've installed the pack suggested by GOG support.
Not sure what to say, maybe try windows 1803, as a side note, tomorrow I want to install 1809, and I will try to test W2, I have gtx 1080.

Just a moment ago a friend of mine tried to install The Witcher 2 on his config, a lot like mine with RTX2080(Last Nvidia Driver) and Windows 10 Pro version 1809. It works nice. I really don't know...
Hello I'm here againg, this time with good news!

Finally the game has started. In order to make it happens I've attached the Visual Studio Debugger to the crashing executable (witcher2.exe) it has suggested me an expection that involved hid.dll. This library is responsable of USB peripheral communication so I decided to uninstall all the peripheral USB driver related (Mouse, Keyboard, SoundCard ecc...) then I managed to reinstall one driver at time and I finally turn out the the issue was caused by mouse's driver. In particular the driver was Roccat V:1.20 FW:1.21 for Kone XTD. So I've reinstalled all the drivers except of the mouse one.
I hope this will be helpfull for some future issues.

Thank you all for the support.

Hover over the reply you wish to mark with your mouse and you'll see (at the right) "Mark the question as answered", or words to that effect.
For those who may be googling in the future: I couldn't start Witcher 2 for a long time- it would just show up with the medallion and hang there. In my case, it turned out that limiting the number of cores in msconfig to a few fixed the issue. Not sure where the limit is, but 4 worked.

This finally worked for me. There is a slightly easier way. If you go into task manager right click the launcher process, click "Go To Details", then right click on the process and select "Set Affinity" then select the first four cores, it will have the same affect.

I did this all the way up to 31 of the 32 and it still worked. I really have no idea. 32 doesn't work though. The only thing I can think of is that it is a 32 bit thing.
